Web Developer - (Part-Time W-2)

Location: Western Massachusetts / Northern Connecticut (Remote-friendly with occasional in-person collaboration) Hours: 15-20 hours per week Employment Type: W-2 Part-Time Compensation: $28-35/hour DOE About Us Friendly IT & Tech is an LGBTBE-certified managed service provider serving businesses across Western MA and Northern CT. We handle everything from managed IT services to custom web and software development, and we're growing fast. Our approach is modern, transparent, and non-hierarchical. We use AI-augmented workflows, cutting-edge tools, and we genuinely enjoy solving problems together. The Role We're looking for a web developer who's ready to build and implement—someone who can take specifications and turn them into working websites and applications. You'll work directly alongside our lead developer on client projects, handling the implementation work: building out sites, connecting APIs, setting up databases, and getting features shipped. You're not expected to design interfaces or architect systems from scratch—our lead developer handles that. What we need is someone who can take a design or spec, understand what needs to be built, and execute on it efficiently using modern tools and workflows. You should be comfortable working independently on well-defined tasks while knowing when to ask questions. Here's what matters most to us: We're looking for people who can learn, communicate, and code—in that order. We don't need someone who's memorized every framework or has 10 years of React experience. We need someone who's hungry to learn, thinks about how their work affects the bigger picture, and can clearly communicate when they're stuck or when they see a potential issue. If you're early in your career but you're adaptable, thoughtful, and excited to build real things with modern tools, we want to hear from you. What you'll actually do day-to-day: Build Next.js / React sites from designs and wireframes Set up and configure backend services (Convex, Supabase, etc.) Implement authentication flows using Clerk or similar Connect APIs and third-party integrations Deploy sites to Vercel and manage deployment workflows Handle routine updates and maintenance on existing client projects Work through the development task queue and technical specifications What We're Looking For Our priority order (and yours should be too): You can LEARN fast - If our lead developer can spend 3-4 hours showing you a process and you can replicate it well, that's what matters most You COMMUNICATE clearly - Ask good questions, explain your thinking, flag issues before they become problems You can CODE - But we don't care which languages you know; we care that you can build things What that actually means: Must-haves: 1-4 years of development experience (bootcamp grads with portfolios welcome) Hunger to learn new tools and frameworks - Our stack evolves with client needs, and you should be excited (not intimidated) by that Systems thinking - If you implement X, can you think about side effect Y? Do you consider impacts beyond just the scoped task? Strong communication skills - You're remote and part-time, so being clear and proactive is critical AI-assisted workflow - You use Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Copilot, or similar to learn faster and build faster Working knowledge of modern web development - You've built things with JavaScript/TypeScript and React-based frameworks Experience with Git/GitHub basics: commits, branches, pull requests Bonus points: Familiarity with Next.js, Vercel, Clerk, Supabase, or Convex (but willingness to learn them is more important than current expertise) Located in Western MA / Northern CT for occasional in-person work sessions You think beyond the task: "Should we also consider..." or "What if this affects..."
