Maintenance Mechanic (Carpenter)

This is a full-performance Journeyman level Carpenter position which also performs other basic tradesmen skills to assist in work such as building maintenance and roofing. The position is organizationally located within Facilities Management Service located at the Richmond Veterans Affairs Medical Center.Duties include but are not limited to:Hangs and installs related hardware such as hinges, locks, flush bolts, closers, thresholds.Repairs mill work such as tables, drawers, cabinet doors, bulletin boards, benches, shelving ladders, pictures and other wooden objects.Repair all types of roofing systems, including coping, flashing, downspouts, etc.Construct and install cabinets and counter tops.Installs rafters, studs, sills, plates, braces, joists, floors, sub-floors, panels (including sheetrock, metal studs, plywood, and veneers), siding, sheathing, roofing, building paper, insulating materials, door and window frames, and interior and exterior trim.Plans and lays out complex work in accordance with drawings, sketches, blueprints and own knowledge of construction.Use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and stationary shop tools. Maintain all tools in proper working condition.Selects, cuts, turns, shapes, joins, bonds, fits, assembles and decorates wooden materials and parts using the full range of hand and power woodworking tools and techniques.Install, modify and maintain metal acoustical grid ceilings, handrails and grab bars, cubicle curtain tracks, all types of shelving, installation and maintenance of furniture.Install various wall mounted items.Work Schedule: 8:00a-4:30p, Monday-FridayPosition Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic (Carpenter)/02779A
