About the job Casting QA Engineer Job Title: Casting QA EngineerLocation: Coldwater, MI, USASalary: $75-85,000.00Position Type: Full Time (Permanent hire)Industry: Automotive ManufacturingSummaryPerform engineering duties in planning and designing tools, fixtures, jigs, gating / risering of DISA Vertical and Georg Fisher Horizontal patterns.Hours: 6:30am-3:00pm (1st shift)Travel: 15-20%Essential FunctionsReview and interpret engineering documentation such as prints, schematics, technical layouts, and system-generated reportsCollaborate with engineering and operations teams to establish procedures, troubleshoot issues, and exchange technical guidanceAnalyze customer designs, specifications, manuals, and related documentation to assess feasibility, cost impact, and long-term support requirementsDefine system elements or guide product changes to ensure alignment with performance and engineering requirementsApply engineering principles to research, design, assess, install, operate, and sustain mechanical equipment, processes, and systemsLead cross-functional investigations into casting defects and scrap, and develop corrective and mitigation plansUtilize CAD tools, including CATIA, to support design and evaluation effortsCommunicate customer feedback, issues, and performance concerns to design engineering teamsDesign and build gating systems for tooling using 3D models and technical drawingsExecute trials, monitor results, document findings, and present conclusions to stakeholdersRecommend enhancements to existing or proposed designs to improve performance or qualityCreate and validate alternative design concepts and processing approaches to determine feasibility and required modificationsUse hand and power tools to fabricate gating, riser, and runner systemsProvide oversight or guidance to production staff, technicians, technologists, and engineering personnel as requiredDemonstrate the ability to understand or learn MAGMA simulation softwareMaintain knowledge of ferrous microstructures, layout techniques, and measurement toolsDevelop performance criteria for engineering initiatives and product development effortsConduct audits of non-conforming materials internally and at customer locationsSupport tooling evaluation and maintenance activities across all company facilitiesContribute to and meet departmental and company objectives related to health and safety performanceSkills: Microsoft Office, Auto CAD / CATIA / 3D Modeling, Magmasoft - preferred but not requiredEducation: Bachelors Degree (four year college or technical school) or equivalent experienceExperience: Two to four years related experience
