This position is responsible for performing general ledger accounting functions, preparing and reviewing account reconciliations, supporting financial reporting activities, coordinating audit preparation and ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations.The Senior Accountant works independently with a high level of judgement while providing guidance and technical support to Office of Finance team. The Senior Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of the College’sfinancial records and reports.Minimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or closely related field.Five (5) years of accounting experience.Experience with general ledger accounting, preparing financial statements and audit schedules.Required Job Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesKnowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and governmental accounting experience.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel, Word and PowerPoint.Knowledge of governmental accounting and financial reporting.Ability to analyze complex accounting issues and interpret accounting standards, policies and procedures.Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.Effective written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.Preferred QualificationsExperience in governmental or higher education accounting environment.Experience with Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) preparation, GFOA award submissions, and financial reporting.CPA or CPA-eligible.Experience using ERP or financial management systems (e.g., Ellucian Colleague or similar).Special Instructions to ApplicantsThis is a security-sensitive position. Upon request, reasonable accommodations in the application process will be provided to individuals with disabilities.Job DutiesJob DutyGeneral Ledger AccountingPrepare general ledger journal entries in accordance with GAAP and applicable governmental accounting standards (GASB).Perform monthly, quarterly and year-end reconciliations of general ledger accounts, including cash, receivables, payables, payroll, capital assets and deferred items.Support monthly, quarterly and year-end close activities.Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.Job DutyAccount Reconciliations & AnalysisPerform reconciliations of balance sheet and selected operating accounts.Research and resolve discrepancies and reconciling items.Analyze account activity and investigate variances.Maintain reconciliation documentation in accordance with internal controls.Job DutyFinancial Reporting & Audit SupportAssist with preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules.Support the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) preparation process and other required financial reports, including schedules required by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and grantor agencies.Prepare audit schedules and supporting workpapers.Respond to internal and external auditor requests.Assist with implementation of audit recommendations.Job DutyCompliance, Controls & Specialized AccountingEnsure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and College policies.Apply GASB standards and other relevant accounting guidance.Participates in the development, documentation and maintenance of accounting procedures and internal controls.Support accounting for specialized areas such as capital assets, leases, subscriptions, grants or payroll as assigned.Job DutySystems, Collaboration & Continuous ImprovementUtilize the College’s financial ERP system to process and review transactions.Collaborate with Division of Finance staff and campus departments.Provide accounting guidance to internal stakeholders.Participate in process improvements, system testing and special projects.
