Database Engineer

Annapolis Junction, MD; Washington, DC; or Reston, VA area preferred (telework is allowed)We are seeking an experienced Database Engineer to support the modernization of a critical government information system. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Oracle database administration, specifically Oracle 19c, with proven experience in both on-premises and AWS RDS environments. You will be responsible for database creation, schema design and implementation, performance tuning, and establish robust backup and restore procedures to ensure data integrity and availability. You will work closely with Java developers to optimize database interactions, support SAP Business Intelligence reporting requirements, and ensure seamless integration with Apache Solr indexing processes. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, the ability to troubleshoot complex database issues in production environments, and strong documentation skills.Position ResponsibilitiesDatabase Administration:Create and manage Oracle 19c databases in both on-premises and AWS RDS environmentsDesign and implement database schemas to support application requirementsPerform database performance tuning and optimizationExecute patch management and version upgrades for Oracle databasesData Protection & SecurityEstablish and maintain robust backup and restore proceduresImplement Oracle database security hardening measuresEnsure data integrity and availability across all environmentsDevelop and test disaster recovery plansMigration & IntegrationOptimize database interactions with Java application componentsSupport SAP Business Intelligence reporting requirements and queriesEnsure seamless integration with Apache Solr indexing processesCompliance & MonitoringImplement compliance controls for government systems (FISMA, FedRAMP, or similar)Deploy and maintain database monitoring toolsTroubleshoot complex database issues in production environmentsCreate and maintain comprehensive technical documentationObtain and maintain required security clearance"Required QualificationsExperience administering Oracle 19c databases in production environmentsExperience with Oracle database administration in both on-premises and AWS RDS environmentsExperience designing and implementing database schemas for enterprise applicationsExperience with database performance tuning and optimization techniquesExperience establishing and maintaining backup and restore procedures for Oracle databasesExperience implementing Oracle database security hardening measuresExperience with patch management and version upgrades for Oracle databasesExperience optimizing database interactions with Java applicationsExperience integrating databases with search/indexing platforms (Apache Solr experience preferred)Experience troubleshooting complex database issues in production environmentsExperience implementing compliance controls for government systems (FISMA, FedRAMP, or similar frameworks)Experience deploying and maintaining database monitoring toolsExperience in creating and maintaining technical documentation for database systemsAbility to obtain and/or maintain a TS/SCI government clearance which requires US Citizenship"Education & Experience Requirements13+ Years of experience in Systems or IT related roles or a highly related field of work with similar scope and responsibilities.A bachelor's degree may be substituted for 4 years of experience and a master's degree may be substituted for 6 years of experience.Desired QualificationsTS/SCI with an in-scope polygraphPlan and execute database migration strategies from on-premises VMware to AWS RDSExperience supporting Business Intelligence reporting requirements (SAP BI preferred)
