Machine Operator

Summary: Intec is one of the aerospace industries leading independent test labs. We work with the R&D departments of some of the industries leading businesses. The machinist position is integral in creating test specimens and production parts. This is a dynamic role where no two days are the same. We are looking for someone with mechanical aptitude, comfortable running manual cutting tools and a willingness to learn. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Reviews manufacturing planning, part-specific engineering information, set-up information and/or related instructions to understand appropriate work process and quality requirements for completed product. Transfer cutting lines from engineering to part surfaces prior to trim, including trim lines, orientation markings, serial numbers, etc. Perform setup and cutting operations such as slicing with table saw, surface grinder and band saw. Perform operation of 3 axis CNC mill under instruction of a senior machinist. Perform dimensional conformance checks of machined parts using digital caliper, micrometer, height gage, dial indicator and mass scale. Perform visual inspection of machined parts to check for delamination, break through, flaring, etc. Performs routine maintenance of equipment, tools and work areas, e.g. machine wipe-down, sweeping, scrap removal. Communicate effectively with onsite engineers. Qualifications: Ability to read and interpret simple drawings and written instructions Basic math and geometry/trigonometry skill including angle measurement and calculation, conversion of fractions to decimal equivalents, etc. Ability to use basic machining equipment including band saw, tile saw, table saw, drill press, and slicer machines (surface-grinder style equipment). Ability to use basic measuring tools including tape measure, calipers, micrometers and scales. Able to work alone to complete tasks with minimal supervision Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Must be able to work off shifts if needed Education: High School diploma or GED required Prior experience with powered cutting equipment (table saw, band saw, surface grinder, chop saw), preferably using diamond coated blades and/or flood coolant -or- Prior experience with trades involving precision measurement and cutting of laminated material (ie woodworking) Other Preferred Experience: Operation of a 3 axis CNC mill Time spent working with composites and/or in the aerospace/testing industry Trade school certification in machining or composites processing Basic understanding of G and M code (ie posted machine code) Basic knowledge of CAD systems Basic understanding of hydraulic/pneumatic/mechanical systems Other Skills and Abilities: Understanding of composite materials and design for aerospace manufacturing. Ability to read and interpret drawings and written instructions Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Strong computer skills are required. Work Environment: Normal working conditions in a manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to hazardous chemicals, information about specific chemicals can be found in the plant MSDS, proper PPE will be provided when handling hazardous items.
