Our employees are among the brightest, most talented group of innovators who work collaboratively to improve our products and exceed customer expectations season after season.Are you a TaxSlayer?About The RoleThe Software Development Manager is responsible for leading and supporting an engineering team that delivers critical capabilities for TaxSlayer’s products. This role combines technical leadership, people management, and process ownership to ensure reliable delivery, strong engineering standards, and continuous improvement. The Software Development Manager works closely with cross-functional partners to align execution with organizational priorities and business objectives.What You’ll Be DoingLead and support a team of software engineers to deliver high-quality, secure, and scalable software solutions through effective prioritization, technical guidance, and performance management.Partner with Product, Design, Architecture, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into actionable technical plansProvide technical guidance and architectural oversight across full-stack systems using modern frameworks and cloud-native technologiesEnsure consistent delivery through agile best practices including sprint planning, backlog refinement, retrospectives, and release managementPromote and enforce engineering best practices including code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, and secure development standardsIdentify and mitigate technical, delivery, and resourcing risksSupport hiring, onboarding, and team capacity planning in alignment with organizational needsOther duties as assignedMust-Have Skills & ExperienceConsistent on-time delivery of committed sprint and release objectivesHigh code quality demonstrated by low defect rates, strong test coverage, and system stabilityImproved team engagement, retention, and individual skill growthEffective cross functional collaboration as reflected in stakeholder feedbackReduction of security vulnerabilities and operational incidentsAlignment of engineering output with business priorities and customer outcomesStrong expertise in modern full-stack development, including C#, ASP.NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSSExperience with frontend frameworks such as React or AngularSolid understanding of relational databases (SQL Server, Postgres, MySQL) and familiarity with non-relational databases (e.g., Redis)Proficiency with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (Git, Azure DevOps), and DevOps technologies such as Docker and KubernetesDeep understanding of object-oriented design principles, design patterns, and software architectureDemonstrated ability to lead teams in an Agile/Scrum environmentStrong communication, coaching, and conflict-resolution skillsAbility to balance technical decision-making with people leadership and business prioritiesEducation & CertificationsBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.7+ years of professional software development experience2+ years of experience leading or managing software engineering teamsPreferred QualificationsExperience in financial services or tax software domains.Familiarity with domain-driven design.Knowledge of modern state management principles.Ready to Join Us?Apply today and be sure to opt in for text updates to stay connected with our recruiting team throughout the process!What We OfferAt TaxSlayer, we know that our greatest strength lies in the talented individuals who drive our innovation and success.
