Full Stack Java Developer

*Project Overview* Agensys is seeking a Full Stack Java / AI Software Developer to support a new initiative focused on expanding cloud-based flight planning and automation capabilities. This effort is part of a broader flight service modernization initiative and will involve approximately six months of intensive product development before transitioning into operations and maintenance. The new Alaska capability is expected to eventually integrate with existing flight service systems supporting the continental United States. The development team will use modern full-stack technologies and AI-assisted software engineering tools to accelerate the delivery of new application capabilities. *What Makes This Opportunity Different* The team is adopting an AI-driven development model where engineers use Claude and AI coding agents to perform a significant portion of the coding work. Developers will be responsible for understanding requirements, designing technical solutions, breaking down development activities, and providing detailed instructions to AI agents. They will then review, test, troubleshoot, and refine the generated code to ensure it meets production requirements. We are looking for experienced software engineers who understand how to use AI to accelerate development without sacrificing architecture, security, performance, or code quality. *Key Skills*

• *Full Stack Java Development – Spring Boot, React & REST APIs:* Strong hands-on experience building enterprise applications using Java, Spring Framework/Spring Boot, React, JavaScript, and REST APIs. Candidates must understand application architecture, software design, testing, debugging, and code quality.
• *AI-Assisted Software Development – Claude & AI Coding Agents:* Practical experience using Claude Code or comparable AI coding agents to plan, design, generate, review, troubleshoot, and validate software. Candidates must be comfortable directing AI agents through structured development instructions and independently evaluating the resulting code.
• *GitLab, Agile & Cloud-Native Development:* Experience with GitLab or comparable Git-based development workflows, Agile/Scrum methodologies, cloud-based applications, automated testing, and collaborative software delivery. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and DevSecOps is beneficial.

*Responsibilities*

• Design, develop, test, and maintain full-stack Java applications supporting FAA flight planning and automation capabilities.
• Develop backend services using Java, Spring Framework, and Spring Boot.
• Develop frontend components using React, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Design and integrate RESTful APIs and supporting application services.
• Use Claude and AI coding agents to accelerate development, debugging, testing, and implementation.
• Translate technical requirements into structured development plans and detailed instructions for AI coding tools.
• Direct AI agents to generate application functionality and assist with software engineering tasks.
• Review, troubleshoot, test, and refine AI-generated code.
• Develop and execute unit and functional tests using tools such as JUnit and Mockito.
• Apply secure coding principles and maintain high standards for application performance and reliability.
• Use GitLab for source control, code reviews, collaboration, and development workflows.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, and technical design discussions.
• Collaborate with product owners, software engineers, systems engineers, and DevSecOps teams.
• Develop and support cloud-based and containerized applications.
• Troubleshoot defects and resolve technical issues throughout development and testing.
• Support integration with existing FAA flight service systems.
• Assist with transitioning new capabilities into ongoing operations and maintenance.

*Required Qualifications*

• *Professional experience in full-stack Java software development.*
• *Strong experience with Java, Spring Framework, and Spring Boot.*
• Experience developing frontend applications using React and JavaScript.
• Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
• *Hands-on experience with Claude Code or comparable AI-assisted software development tools.*
• *Experience using AI coding agents to generate, review, test, and troubleshoot application code.*
• Ability to independently assess the quality, correctness, security, and maintainability of AI-generated software.
• Experience with GitLab or other Git-based version control systems.
• Experience with unit testing frameworks such as JUnit and Mockito.
• Experience working in Linux-based development environments.
• Experience developing or supporting cloud-based applications.
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum software development teams.
• Strong understanding of application architecture, debugging, testing, and software engineering best practices.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
• *Ability to complete required background investigation and drug screening.*
• *U.S. Citizenship or permanent resident status, subject to final program eligibility confirmation.*

*Preferred Qualifications*

• Direct experience using Claude Code in a production software development environment.
• Experience with agentic AI workflows, including task decomposition, prompting, automated code generation, and testing.
• Experience with DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, microservices, and containerized applications.
• Experience with Python, Ansible, YAML, or Linux shell scripting.
• Experience with MongoDB.
• Familiarity with Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
• Previous experience supporting FAA, aviation, air traffic management, or flight planning software.
• Experience developing aviation applications or products such as ForeFlight or Garmin.
• Familiarity with aviation data, flight planning workflows, or safety-critical systems.
