Data Migration Lead

Position: Data Migration LeadLocation: Remote (PST Time zone)Employment: ContractJob Description:We're looking for a Data Migration Lead with deep, hands-on experience in the data warehousing world to own end-to-end data migration efforts across our DW and Reporting ecosystem. The ideal candidate has spent significant years as a tech lead, managed complete SDLC cycles, and can independently run the show with a data-driven approach — while communicating clearly with both technical teams and business stakeholders.Responsibilities: -Lead data migration initiatives across DW and reporting platforms, owning design, development, and testing phases end-to-endManage the complete SDLC for migration projects — requirements, planning, execution, testing, and deliveryWrite and optimize complex SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, validation, and reconciliationBuild proof-of-concepts (POCs) for report analysis and log analysis to validate migration approaches and troubleshoot issuesDefine migration strategy, data mapping, and validation frameworks to ensure data accuracy and integrityDrive data-driven decision-making across the project lifecycle.Identify risks and data quality issues early and drive resolution independently.Create and maintain documentation: migration plans, test cases, mapping sheets, and runbooksMentor junior team members and guide the team as a technical leadPartner with business stakeholders, BI teams, and engineering to gather requirements and communicate migration progress, risks, and timelinesMandatory skillsStrong, well-rounded understanding of data warehousing concepts (dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, ETL/ELT design)Significant years of experience working in data warehousing, including time spent in a tech lead roleProven track record managing end-to-end SDLC for DW/reporting projectsHands-on experience in ETL development and reportingStrong familiarity with data migration projects and methodologiesStrong hands-on SQL skills (complex queries, performance tuning, data validation)Experience building POCs for report and log analysisStrong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilitySelf-starter who can run projects independently with a data-driven mindsetExcellent stakeholder communication skills — able to translate technical details for non-technical audiences and manage expectations across teamsGood to have skills: -Experience with cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, Azure Synapse, etc.)Prior experience leading migration projects in a lead/ownership capacity.Familiarity with BI/reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.).
