Assistant Chief of Survey
AI Engineers, Inc. (AIE) is looking for an Assistant Chief of Survey to join our Design teams based in Middletown, CT, supporting surrounding areas. This is an immediate opening for an enthusiastic, highly-organized land survey professional with senior-level leadership experience to support new and existing projects for various boundary and topographic, bridge, road and construction surveys. Our top-tier benefits programs reflect our passion and culture for investing in our people.Requirements/Qualifications:10+ years of Survey experienceValid U.S. Driver’s license with a clean driving record.High school diploma or equivalentExperience with cost estimating is required.Expert level experience with Carlson Survey, Leica Infinity, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley/MicroStation OpenRoads Designer or similar.Certified Survey Technician level IV or above preferred.LSIT or PLS preferredExperience in leading teams for boundary and topographic surveys, bridge and road surveys, construction surveying for layout & contractor checks, or related strongly preferred.ResponsibilitiesPerform boundary, topographic, construction, and control surveys for state, municipal, and private infrastructure projects, including buildings, roadways, bridges, and development sitesProcess and analyze GPS survey data (Static, RTK, and RTN) to support accurate project deliverablesProcess and analyze survey data derived from 3D scanning and photogrammetry, as required by project scopeConduct land records research and analysis, including boundary analysis, resolution of discrepancies, and interpretation of deed and right‑of‑way informationPrepare and develop survey deliverables, including mapping, exhibits, reports, and record drawings, using compiled field and office dataReview project information with a forward‑looking mindset to identify missing data, conflicts, or future survey requirementsAnticipate field and office challenges by thinking several steps ahead and addressing issues before they affect project schedule, quality, or costCollaborate closely with engineers, architects, construction professionals, and project managers to support coordinated project deliveryApply a working understanding of construction documents and project delivery methods, including Design‑Build, to support survey scope and executionAdapt to and apply multiple CAD standards and client requirements across a variety of projectsSupport cost estimating, task planning, and efficient execution of survey assignmentsMentor junior staff in field and office survey procedures, best practices, and quality expectationsSkills & Abilities:A self‑starter with the ability to lead survey crew teams and manage multiple concurrent projects and assignmentsProficient in the use of survey equipment, field procedures, and the development of final mapping, reports, and survey data recordsStrong critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to anticipate issues, evaluate alternatives, and make sound decisions in the field and officeExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with project teams, clients, and stakeholdersUnderstanding of various project delivery methods, including direct experience with Design‑Build projectsDemonstrates sound professional judgment and attention to detail to ensure quality, accuracy, and completeness of survey workAbility and willingness to travel to work sites; occasional to moderate travel may be requiredAIE is a multi-disciplinary, ENR-500 company with 13 offices in the U.S and over 350 employees.
