Volunteer: IT Help for Moving to Discourse Forum
This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections. We need a bit of technical help to migrate our community from Discord to Discourse (open source forums). We'd love to find a volunteer who has experience with IT and ideally Discourse. We have several thousand members and want to make sure we can get them into the new forums, make sure it's set up correctly with the plugins we need to support the activities we currently do. It doesn't seem like a super complex project but having a pro who can help make sure we do things correctly will allow us to move forward.Tech Fleet gives folks experience working in cross-functional teams to build websites and other tech for nonprofits. Our members are early career or career-changers and we orient around service leadership where people learn to work with one another in teams. We would like to move to a more long-term option for our community than Discord, which isn't the ideal professional space and risks our community's privacy. This project will help us have a long-term home for the thousands of members who go through our programs and community. We have documented the needs we have for the platform and have community members who are willing to help us. We have considered a self-hosted option (through a cloud provider) and if we can find a Taproot volunteer with experience with managing that, it would be great, but we could also use Discourse hosting at first for simplicity.Tech Fleet Mission: We're on a mission to be the change that the world needs for the future.
