Growing together.As a pharmacist intern with OptumRx's Prior Authorization & Appeals team, you will get the opportunity to work with a team of clinical pharmacists to achieve overall performance objectives to the satisfaction of clients, regulatory bodies, and the organization standards.The schedule for the pharmacist intern program is full-time, 40 hours per week for 10 weeks starting June 2, 2026 and ending on Friday, August 7, 2026. Candidates must be able to participate in the full internship program and be able to work an 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. CST work schedule.Primary Responsibilities:Provide input on decisioning and processing member prescriptions or prior authorizations through various computer systems ensuring the accuracy of all data and updating as necessaryNavigate across multiple computer systems to respond to questions or to provide specific medication details / clinical informationReceive incoming calls from members or providers; conduct outgoing calls as needed to provide follow-up or consultation such as prior authorization requirements, appeals, etc.Apply benefit plan criteria in making decisions (approvals / denials) or recommendations; clarify and explain pharmaceutical benefits and proceduresGain insight into the different areas within the Prior Authorization DepartmentConsistently exhibit behavior and communication skills that demonstrate the company's commitment to superior customer service, including quality care and concern with internal and external customersAdhere to having a safe and secure workspace and communicate with their leadership when that safety (equipment, system, information) is compromisedComply with policies, rules and regulations set forth by the Board of Pharmacy, and other applicable regulatory bodiesUse, protect, and disclose patients' protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standardsYou'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear direction on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.Required Qualifications:Currently enrolled in a Doctor of Pharmacy program, with first year (P1) completed before start of internshipActive licensure as a pharmacist intern or equivalent depending on state board of pharmacy regulationsMust be eligible to work in the U.S. without company sponsorship, now or in the future, for employment-based work authorization (F-1 students with practical training and candidates requiring H-1Bs, TNs, etc. will not be considered)Preferred Qualifications:Enrollment as a P2 or P3 student for the August 2026 academic year3.5 or higher cumulative GPAKnowledge of medical and pharmacy terminologyProven solid oral and written communication skillsProven adequate mathematical, analytical, and critical thinking skillsPay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $xx.xx to $xx.xx per hour based on full-time employment.
