School District Position DescriptionPosition Title: District Alternative Certification Coach (200 days)Department: Human ResourcesReports To: Chief Human Resources OfficerPrepared By: Stephanie Hucks, HRO Date: April 29, 2026Approved By: Dr. Angela Cooper, CHRO Date: April 29, 2026SummaryThe Alternative Certification Coach will model effective instructional strategies for teachers, facilitate study groups, and work with teachers to ensure that research-based programs are implemented with fidelity. The Alternative Certification Coach will attend regular meetings with district-level coordinators to ensure consistent programming throughout the district and may at times be responsible for providing district-level professional development. The Alternative Certification Coach will support instructional growth and development of teachers in alternative certification programs in the areas related to the South Carolina Teaching Standards 4.0 rubric and SC Mentor Guidelines.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other Duties May Be Assigned.Build trusting relationships with new teachers and maintain confidentiality.Utilize foundational mentoring tools, protocols, and language to support coaching conversations that accelerate teacher practice and student learning.Conduct classroom observations on teachers in their using the SCTS 4.0 rubric to inform instruction and enhance student achievement.Model, as appropriate, innovative teaching methodologies through techniques such as co-teaching and demonstration lessons.Arrange and facilitate opportunities for teachers to observe exemplary practice through peer classroom visits.Encourage teachers to identify instructional resources and support throughout the entire school community.Incorporate technology and analysis of data to advance both teacher learning and classroom practice.Participate in all Alternative Certification required events including, but not limited to, Summer Institutes and Induction Kickoff.Collaborate with the Coordinators and instructors of the Alternative Certification and Induction programs.Qualification RequirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
