Manager, Automation Engineering - Continuous Improvement

Position Summary... What you'll do... As an Automation Engineering Manager , you will play a critical role in optimizing performance across our next-generation eCommerce automation network. This role is built for a leader who thrives at the intersection of data, automation, and operations u2014someone who can translate complex system behavior into measurable improvements in cost, throughput, and delivery performance. With responsibility across multiple operating sites, you will own continuous improvement efforts that drive higher utilization, improved reliability, and sustained performance gains. Success in this role comes from combining strong analytical capability with practical operational executionu2014using data, system knowledge, and disciplined improvement methods to remove friction from highly automated environments. Key Responsibilities: + Drive performance through data: Analyze large, complex operational datasets to identify throughput constraints, reliability gaps, and utilization opportunities across automated systems. + Translate insight into action: Develop clear, actionable recommendations and work with site and engineering teams to implement improvements that move cost, CPH/UPH, and automation metrics. + Optimize automated systems end-to-end: Leverage an understanding of automation infrastructure, controls, and system data to improve startup behavior, reduce downtime, and stabilize peak operations. + Lead continuous improvement initiatives: Identify, prioritize, and execute improvement efforts that increase automation effectiveness, improve system resiliency, and raise baseline performance year over year. + Support expansions and launches: Partner on expansion cut-ins and new asset launches, ensuring performance ramps quickly and lessons learned are embedded into standard practices. + Influence without authority: Collaborate across operations, engineering, product, and vendors to align on priorities and deliver results in complex, fast-moving environments. + Challenge the status quo: Bring new ideas, industry best practices, and analytical rigor to continuously raise the bar on how automated systems are operated and improved. What Success Looks Like: + Measurable improvements in automation rate, throughput, and reliability + Reduced downtime and faster recovery from power, startup, and peak-related disruptions + Clear performance visibility through data and reporting that enables better decisions + Expansion and peak periods executed with fewer surprises and stronger outcomes Preferred Qualifications: + Experience supporting or optimizing automation systems in eCommerce, distribution, or supply chain environments + Strong analytical skills with experience using cloud-based data platforms (e.g., GCP) or similar tools + Proven track record of continuous improvement driven by data, root cause analysis, and operational execution + Familiarity with Lean, Six Sigma, or similar improvement methodologies + Strong communication skills and the ability to influence cross-functional partners + Demonstrated ability to introduce new approaches and elevate performance in established operations Travel Expectations This role includes 35% travel , primarily to operating sites to identify improvement initiatives along with supporting critical operational periods.
