Deputy Register of Deeds II*
General Description
The Orange County Register of Deeds Department has an opening for a Deputy Register of Deeds II in indexing and recording. The work is primarily responsible forassisting the general public in the vital records, Recording, and or Indexing section of the Register of Deeds office. An employee in this class is primarily responsible for the recording of legal documents and maps, researching property, printing certified documents, administering notary oaths, and providing customer service. Index recorded legal documents and maps, and assist the public with obtaining marriage licenses and certified copies (i.e. military discharges, and copies of birth, death and marriage certificates), as well as preserving and providing copies of historic records.
Work is performed under the general supervision of a Deputy III, and the Assistant Register of Deeds with leewayto exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding customer needs and requests and conducting project assignments. Supervision is nota responsibility of this class. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Accounting, Paralegal or related field AND two (2) years' work experience in an office setting requiring a high volume of customer service, OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Successful completion of the Basic School for Registers of Deeds and certification as a Deputy Register of Deeds within four (4) years of employment.
All offers of employment are conditional upon successful clearance of a background check. Employment cannot commence until the employee has been cleared.
