Job Summary
As a ready mix truck driver, you will operate a heavy diesel truck equipped with auxiliary concrete mixer, consisting of a revolving drum to mix the concrete components during transport to delivery sites. You will be responsible for maintaining the materials in a liquid state through agitation or turning of the drum, until delivery at its destination. Once on site, you will maneuver the truck appropriately to feed the concrete mixture to designated areas with a gravity fed chute on the back center of the truck.
Job Requirements
Must have a valid Department of Transportation certified CDL
Must be able to pass a federal Department of Transportation drug/alcohol screening and physical.
Must maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with Federal and State Motor Carrier regulations and company policy
Must adhere to safety requirements and procedures and wearing of required safety equipment and clothing
Drivers must be at work at the appointed time ready to start with proper safety attire andequipment.
Punch a time clock
Drivers are required to work Monday through Friday with an occasional Saturday.
Duties
Maneuver truck into loading position for filling (hopper at plant) and unloading positions at customer job sites.
Operate mixer to produce concrete from sand, gravel, cement and water.
Assemble chutes and operate levers to release concrete per customer request.
Clean truck after loading and after each deliver to prevent concrete from hardening in mixer and on truck surfaces.
Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections
Monitor truck and company equipment to ensure proper operation and professional appearance.
Preform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel or coolant and preforming minor repairs.
Assist with various plan operations, such as general carpentry, maintenance and mechanical work as needed.
Operate equipment, such as truck mixer controls, CB radios, mobile phones and global positioning systems (GPS) equipment to exchange necessary information with dispatch, supervisors and other drivers.
Interaction with customers on a daily basis. Handling of payments from customers on job sites.
Physical Demands
Moderate to Strenuous work. Must be able to climb in and out of the truck many times a day.
Driver must climb a ladder on the back of the truck. Ladder is used to check the concrete and carry things to be added to the load.
Driver must pull down the main chute on the truck and attach chute extensions at every job. It takes approximately 60 lbs of force to pull the chute down. Must carry chute extensions weighing approximately 50 lbs.
Operating of hand tools
Extended periods of sitting while driving to/from job sites with constant vibration and motion, typically less than 30 minutes but could be an hour or more.
Drivers must wash and clean their trucks. This requires a fair amount of climbing on the truck
Requires working in hot (90° F+) and cold (32° F-) temperatures. Truck cab is heated but may not be air conditioned.
Requires walking on terrain that may be uneven, muddy and slippery.
Exposure to sounds and noise levels that may be distracting or uncomfortable
Exposure to diesel exhaust, dust and water mist or vapor
Variable lighting conditions, dependent upon available natural light.
Qualifications
- CDL license
- Experience in heavy equipment operation, specifically with concrete mixers
- Knowledge of paving and concrete pumping processes
- Familiarity with construction sites and concrete forming
- Mechanical knowledge for maintenance and repairs
- Previous experience with loader operation and rebar installation
- Ability to operate excavators and dump trucks
- Commercial driving experience with commercial vehicles
