Systems Engineer
Position Summary
The Systems Engineer will assist with the design and maintain LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, wireless, VPN, security, server, endpoint, IoT, and cloud connectivity solutions while collaborating with infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud, application, warehouse, manufacturing, and business teams to deliver secure and reliable IT services.
A key responsibility of this position is supporting technology used within warehouse and operational environments, including Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), RF handheld devices and scanners, wireless infrastructure, warehouse and industrial printers, label-printing systems, conveyors, automation systems, IoT devices, sensors, and other connected operational technologies. The Systems Engineer will work closely with application, warehouse operations, facilities, engineering, and third-party vendors to troubleshoot connectivity, hardware, system, and integration issues that could impact warehouse and business operations.
The individual will also participate in network and infrastructure modernization initiatives, office and warehouse deployments, document infrastructure architectures, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and recommend improvements that enhance performance, resiliency, security, and operational efficiency.
This individual will embrace innovation and continuous improvement while demonstrating strong technical expertise, accountability, collaboration, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced global IT environment.
In addition, the individual will work with internal IT support teams and business partners providing Tier 2 and Tier 3 support as needed.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with the design, implement, configure, and maintain enterprise WAN, LAN, wireless, inter-VLAN routing, segmentation, and SD-WAN network infrastructure.
Maintain secure site-to-site VPN tunnels between corporate offices, cloud providers, and third-party partners.
Install, configure, maintain, upgrade Cisco and Meraki switches, routers, wireless controllers, access points, and security appliances such as Zscaler.
Configure and troubleshoot Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking including routing, switching, NAT, ACLs, QoS, and multicast technologies.
Monitor network availability, utilization, latency, and performance using enterprise monitoring solutions and proactively identify opportunities for optimization.
Support wireless networks and RF connectivity throughout office, warehouse, manufacturing, and operational environments, ensuring reliable coverage and performance for business-critical devices.
Provide technical support for Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and the infrastructure supporting warehouse operations, working closely with application teams, warehouse operations, and vendors.
Support network connectivity and infrastructure integrations for conveyors, material-handling equipment, warehouse automation, sensors, cameras, IoT devices, and other connected operational equipment.
Ensure warehouse and operational technology is appropriately segmented from corporate networks while maintaining required communication between systems.
Participate in network architecture reviews and recommend improvements to increase resiliency, performance, and operational efficiency.
Maintain accurate network diagrams, IP address management documentation, topology maps, and configuration standards.
Assist with disaster recovery planning and business continuity initiatives related to network infrastructure.
Collaborate with system administrators, cloud engineers, application teams, and vendors to troubleshoot enterprise infrastructure issues.
Manage firmware upgrades, software updates, hardware lifecycle management, and configuration backups.
Perform root cause analysis of network outages and develop preventive measures.
Participate in On-Call support and respond to critical network incidents when required.
Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 network support for escalated incidents.
Participate in infrastructure projects including office relocations, acquisitions, new site deployments, and global network expansion.
Work closely with vendors and service providers to resolve telecommunications and network service issues.
Contribute to IT strategy by evaluating emerging networking technologies and recommending solutions that improve business operations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
Professional networking certifications preferred, including one or more of the following:
Cisco CCNA
Cisco CCNP Enterprise
VMware (VCP or VCAP)
Microsoft (MCSA, MCSE, Microsoft 365)
Technical Skills
Minimum 5+ years of enterprise systems engineering experience.
5+ years designing, implementing, configuring, and supporting Cisco and/or Cisco Meraki enterprise networking environments.
Strong experience in designing and supporting enterprise LAN/WAN, SD-WAN, Site-to-site VPNs, VLANs, routing and switching, wireless networks, and network segmentation.
Experience with office relocation.
Experience supporting cloud networking within Microsoft Azure and AWS environments.
Experience with Zero Trust networking such as, Zscaler, Secure Access Service Edge (SASE), and network access control technologies.
Experience with virtualization platforms including VMware and Hyper-V.
Working knowledge of Windows Server and Linux operating systems.
Strong understanding of network security best practices, vulnerabilities remediation, and infrastructure hardening.
