The Batavia Park District is committed to excellence and is a leader in providing leisure experiences that enhance the quality of life for our community.Job Summary:Responsible for instructing children in academic, recreational, and social/emotional activities within thematic units of study to complement and enhance the enrichment curriculum.Essential Functions:Collaborate with assistants to develop lesson plans for New Adventures Play Lab.Introducing basic skills such as colors, shapes, numbers and letter recognition, STEAM, personal hygiene, social, physical skills as well as recreation.Instruct students individually and in groups, adapting teaching methods to meet students’ varying needs and interests.Observe and evaluate children’s performance, behavior, social development and physical health and maintain records as appropriate.Work with Fox Valley Special Recreation and as needed to meet the needs of students and organization.Establish and enforce rules for behavior including positive reinforcement following our code of conduct. Perform administrative duties such as assisting in class registration, parent contact and the disbursing and collecting of parent student information, and open houses. Select, store, order, issue and inventory classroom equipment, materials, and supplies within budget.Support and assist supervisor with budget.Confer with parents or guardians, other teachers, to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems which may occur out of regular school hours.Responsible for finding a substitute if unable to work a day.Perform all jobs and tasks within guidelines and rules of District’s safety program. Education and Experience:This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education, Type 3 or Type 10 ISBOE certification and 2-4 years of experience working with children preferably at the early childhood level.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:First Aid/CPR certified.Ability to teach others how to do something.Ability to attend to emotional and developmental concerns of small children.Creativity - ability to develop and plan lessons and prepare many hands-on materials to support lessons.Decision making and problem-solving skills.Strong time management skills.Be able to recognize and respond to time sensitive and confidential information.Ability to communicate with the parents through e-mails, personal contacts and newsletters.Understand and anticipate customer’s needs as well as support a customer service environment.Ability to portray a professional image of the district.Capability to engage and manage children in group activities.Physical Demands/Work Environment:Majority of time spent standing, walking and movingMost activities are performed indoors, exposure to weather conditions during outdoor play time activities May be exposed to excessive noise from childrenMay be required to assist with set up of programs and classrooms which may include bending, reaching, lifting and carrying items up to 25lbs.Scheduling, Pay And BenefitsPart-Time, Non-Exempt (hourly) positionHours: Monday - Thursday, 8:00 AM - 12:30 PMPay: $21.00/hour, DOQJob Type & BenefitsThis is a part-time position. Part-time employees working more than 1,000 hours a year will be eligible to participate in Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF).
