Support Services Specialist

Title: Support Services Specialist Salary: $19-$23 Hourly (Based on experience and availability) Location: Fullerton, CA Hours: 8:30am- 2:30pm; Monday- Friday Essential Duties and Responsibilities: ● Support for Person Centered Plans: Assist in implementing the Person Centered Plan for students with diverse disabilities, ensuring their individual needs are met. ● Instructional Assistance: Provide instructional support to individuals or small groups as directed by instructors, adapting to the needs of each student. ● Community Integration: Accompany students on community-based activities, promoting socialization and skill development outside of the classroom. ● Personal Care Support: Assist students with activities of daily living, including washing, toileting, and other personal care tasks, ensuring dignity and respect at all times. ● Medical Awareness: Remain attentive to students' medical concerns, documenting relevant details and responding appropriately as needed. ● Meal Assistance: Serve meals to students as part of the instructional program, promoting independence where possible. ● Physical Assistance: Support and lift students who rely on mobility devices (e.g., heavy braces, wheelchairs), ensuring safe transfers and movement. ● Classroom Support: Help manage classroom activities and monitor student behavior to ensure a productive learning environment. ● Transportation Supervision: Oversee students during pick-up and drop-off, ensuring safe loading and unloading. ● Facility Maintenance: Assist in keeping the classroom and facility clean, organized, and safe for all students. ● Behavior Management: Respond to and manage challenging student behaviors, such as verbal outbursts or physical aggression, following appropriate protocols. ● Behavioral Documentation: Record and report student behavior and progress to the supervising instructors and facility director. ● Data Collection: Facilitate the collection of data regarding student progress and achievement of individual objectives. ● Record Keeping: Maintain detailed daily, weekly, and monthly progress notes for each student. Knowledge and Skills: ● Language and Communication: Proficient in correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation; strong oral and written communication skills. ● Mathematics: Basic understanding of mathematical concepts for instructional support. ● Disability Care: Knowledge of physical care requirements for students with disabilities. ● Teaching Methods: Understanding of basic teaching techniques and strategies for working with students with diverse needs. ● Interpersonal Skills: Ability to interact with students, staff, and families using tact, patience, and courtesy. ● Hygiene and Safety: Familiarity with appropriate hygiene standards and health and safety regulations related to the position. Abilities: ● Behavioral Intervention: Ability to provide intensive behavioral intervention to students with a variety of needs. ● Record Maintenance: Accurately maintain records and data related to student progress and behavior. ● Empathy and Patience: Demonstrate a patient, understanding, and supportive attitude toward students. ● Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality of sensitive student information at all times. ● Judgment and Decision Making: Use good judgment to respond effectively to student needs and follow established guidelines. ● Task Completion: Efficiently complete tasks in a timely manner while adhering to education and behavior plans. ● Collaboration: Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and families.
