Senior Software Backend Infrastructure Engineer at Tanium Location: Durham, NC (Hybrid - 3 days in office) Team: Engineering Salary Range: $120,000 - $355,000 + equity + comprehensive benefits About the Role We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join Tanium and play a key role in building and scaling our real-time cloud technologies. If you're passionate about creating high-performance backend services that have a direct impact on global enterprise security, this could be the perfect fit for you. You'll be part of a nimble team that designs, builds, tests, and deploys best-in-class products from the ground up. We work closely with our customers from the very beginning, ensuring we're building the right things in the right way. What You'll Do Design, build, and maintain high-impact, scalable, and observable backend services and APIs Own the full development lifecycle, from concept and deployment to iterating based on customer feedback Solve complex product challenges using your systems programming background Collaborate with cross-functional teams in our hybrid work model Champion engineering excellence through sound judgment and commitment to quality Work with modern infrastructure technologies to deploy and scale our services What We're Looking For Technical Skills 5+ years of professional software engineering experience Experience designing and building high-performance, scalable backend services and APIs Proficiency in Golang (preferred), Node.js, Python, Ruby, Rust, or Java Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and Terraform Familiarity with modern software engineering development and automation tools Strong advocate for automated testing and code quality Mindset & Approach Excellent judgment in balancing rapid development with long-term maintainability Ability to troubleshoot and resolve production issues under pressure Versatile learner who can quickly adapt to new tools and frameworks Strong collaborator who thrives in a team environment Customer-focused approach to product development Requirements Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (CS degree preferred) Must be U.S. citizen, national, or resident per government requirements Ability to work from our Durham, NC office 3 days per week What We Offer Competitive salary: $120,000 - $355,000 (based on experience and location) Equity awards 401(k) with company match Life, accident, and disability insurance Flexible spending accounts Work-Life Balance Generous paid time off 5 days of Volunteer Time Off (VTO) annually Supportive, collaborative culture About Tanium Tanium delivers the industry's only true real-time cloud-based endpoint management and security platform.
