ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Perform all functions of the Fire Hydrant/Valve Maintenance Technician. Ensure that all fire hydrant/valve maintenance duties are performed under Artesians established safety policies and procedures. Ensure that fire hydrants and valves are in good working order.
DUTIES: Provide lead Fire Hydrant/Valve Maintenance Technician and Manager with updates on completion of field work.
Perform day-to-day service and routine maintenance on fire hydrants/valves.
Operate, Inspect, repair, and maintenance fire hydrants.
Paint, prep, and install/replace reflective tape to meet service requirements.
Respond to emergency repairs and investigate leak requests.
Assist Lead Fire Hydrant Maintenance Technician with replacement of hydrants.
Rebuild, repair, and replace parts for fire hydrants.
Locate, access, and operate valves in field.
Ensure all hydrants are installed at grade level.
Install hydrant extensions and turn hydrants for new construction.
Provide assistance and perform functions of the T&D Utility-Person position as needed.
Report any unauthorized usage of hydrants to Manager/Security department.
Communicate with dispatch with service locations in the field daily.
Provide notifications to dispatch/manager when hydrant is deemed out of service.
Assist with deployment and maintenance of leak detection devices as needed.
Perform flushing requirements as required for field work.
Maintain/Complete daily inspections on company assigned equipment, tools, and vehicle.
Perform traffic control set-up, maintenance and removal as needed.
Train and develop on all field aspects performed by the T&D Department.
Complete work orders daily using Mobile Work Order System.
Use ARC GIS system to identify locations of curb stops, valves, and hydrants.
Provide pictures of hydrant locations when applicable.
Complete material requisition slips when assigning items out from inventory.
Advise Dispatch during service interruption of repairs.
Contact Dispatch/Manager to enter emergency Miss Utility Tickets as needed.
Prepare and report time sheets daily to Manager.
Check emails and provide timely responses to field work when applicable.
Maintain an open line of communication with Safety department during all field work.
Report any required vehicle maintenance or repairs to the garage/manager immediately.
Completed on-going safety and security training for position.
Respond to emergency calls received by base operator after hours when applicable.
Learn, develop, and cross train within all duties of position for advancement opportunities.
Maintain the cleanliness of shop and equipment on a weekly basis.
Ensure all equipment and tools are secured properly on vehicle.
Using two -way radio to keep connected with base throughout day.
Perform any and all other appropriate functions as required.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school education with. Must posses a valid driver's license with a good driving record. Must be 21 years of age with at least one year of driving experience to drive interstate.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a variety of physical activities including, but not limited to climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, standing and walking to assist in replacement of old and damaged hydrants and to paint and repair hydrants. Speaking, hearing, reading and writing are necessary to communicate with other employees, to fill out daily maintenance reports and to take inventory. Minimum normal vision is required to perform all aspects of job. Requires the ability to learn related steps, processes, or elementary methods.
PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Job requires ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 35 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:
Job requires exposure to outside environmental conditions such as extreme heat and cold along with proximity to moving mechanical parts, vibration, noise, fumes, odors, dusts, and gases. Sometimes requires use of a respirator or other breathing apparatus.
