Analytical Chemist
A specialty chemical manufacturing company in Bay City, Texas is looking for an Analytical Chemist / Lab Manager. Great pay with benefits. EOE / AAP
Job Duties:
Responsibilities include conducting chemical analyses of raw materials, process streams, and products in a timely fashion to support operations. This includes instrument calibration, maintenance, and housekeeping issues. This position also provides technical support to R&D and Pilot Plant Operations as needed.
The Analytical Chemist will also be assigned to non-routine analyses and activities to support overall operations, coordination, and development of the QC Lab capabilities, including but not limited to:
· Instrumental method development
· Instrument and glass wear calibration
· Preparation and standardization of reagents
· Documentation of analytical methods, data, and reports
· Quality control data entry and analysis
· Training
· Implementation of quality control, safety, health, and environmental procedures
· Tracking and storage of samples
· Overall appearance and housekeeping of the lab
· Fill in for Lab Director during their absence
Qualifications:
· Technical knowledge:
o A bachelor's or master's degree in organic chemistry, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in an analytical laboratory.
· Equipment proficiency:
o Candidates should have hands-on experience operating and maintaining instruments like GC, GPC, IR spectrometer, flash point tester, titrator, atomic absorption etc. and wet chemistry techniques.
o The ability to perform routine maintenance on test equipment and resolve technical issues.
o Familiarity with equipment calibration procedures and the ability to perform calibrations as necessary.
o Knowledge of relevant industry standards and their applications in laboratory equipment usage.
· Production Support:
o Ability to work with key stakeholders to prioritize and meet deadlines.
o Generate and validate detailed analytical lab reports that customers rely on.
· Communication skills:
o Effectively communicate and coordinate with various departments.
o The ability to communicate with customers, providing technical support and explaining test results.
· Independent work:
o Strong time management skills.
o The ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely and effective manner.
o The ability to make independent decisions related to laboratory operations and the ability to assume responsibility for the outcomes.
o The ability to lead and mentor laboratory personnel, including setting goals and expectations, providing feedback and coaching.
