The ideal candidate will lead and develop student-athletes through instruction in fundamental skills, game strategy, and physical conditioning, with the goal of fostering both individual growth and team success. The position requires effective communication and collaboration with players, parents, athletic department personnel, and other program stakeholders to promote a positive, supportive and competitive athletic environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Thorough knowledge of all local and state athletic policiesImplement policies as requiredAttend all required meetings set by school and MPAEmphasize the importance of academics, sportsmanship, and citizenship as part of the athletic philosophyMaintain high standards for athletes' performance and conductModel standards of conduct in own behaviorDress appropriately at practices and gamesKnowledge of sportKnowledge of training and conditioning techniquesSeek opportunities to learn and employ new techniques and ideasTeach skills that are appropriate and safe for the individual athleteSupervise athletes at all timesMaintain, inventory, properly store, and care for equipmentCheck equipment and facilities for safetyOversee the necessary preparation to hold scheduled events or practices as necessaryCreate and enforce appropriate team rulesKnowledge and use of appropriate emergency/injury response skillsEncourage leadership of athletes on and off the fieldCommunicate with parents promptly and appropriatelyParticipate in pre-season informational meetings with parents and athletesInteract with game officials effectively and appropriatelyModel excellent sportsmanship at all timesMeet deadlines for paperwork and other related dutiesMaintain paperwork/records of athletes as requiredPerform other duties that may be assigned by the head coach, athletic director, or principal Language and Communication Skills:Ability to read and interpret documents pertinent to position, i.e. athletic policy manuals, handbooks, and state guidelinesAbility to communicate clearly, concisely, and correctly, in speech and writing, to parents, coaches, and athletesAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, athletes, coaching staff, and the community Mathematical Skills:Understanding of budgeting and accounting practices Physical Demands: While performing the essential duties of the position, the employee is continuously required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee will frequently use demonstration techniques while coaching that require physical activity, such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, swinging an implement, and general body movement. The employee will need to carry items that may be heavy (in excess of 20 pounds). The employee will occasionally need to sit for long periods of time and frequently travel by bus. The position may require the employee to work extended hours to meet the demands of the position. Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally will be excessive. Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
