Job DetailsDescriptionThe Vice President of Business & SBA Lending provides strategic and operational leadership for the Credit Union’s Business and Small Business Administration (SBA) lending programs. This role is responsible for driving sustainable loan growth, managing portfolio quality, ensuring regulatory compliance, and expanding the Credit Union’s presence as a trusted financial partner to small businesses within its field of membership.The VP oversees all aspects of Member Business Lending (MBL), including SBA programs, credit administration, staff leadership, and community engagement, while aligning lending initiatives with organizational strategy, risk appetite, and financial performance objectives.Essential Functions And Basic Duties Strategic Leadership & Program Development. Develop and execute the Credit Union’s Business and SBA Lending strategy to drive portfolio growth, profitability, and service excellence. Lead the expansion of MBL offerings, including commercial real estate, equipment financing, lines of credit, and deposit-related business solutions. Manage and grow SBA lending programs, including SBA 7(a), while working toward or maintaining SBA Preferred Lender status. Collaborate with senior leadership to establish lending goals, performance metrics, and reporting for senior management and the Board. Maintain expert knowledge of SBA loan products, SOP requirements, and evolving regulatory expectations. Portfolio & Risk Management Oversee underwriting, structuring, approval, and documentation of business loan requests in accordance with policy and sound credit practices. Monitor portfolio performance metrics including delinquency, charge-offs, concentrations, and risk ratings. Ensure full compliance with NCUA regulations, SBA guidelines, internal policy, and secondary market requirements. Partner with Credit Administration and Risk teams to maintain strong loan quality and minimize losses. Oversee business credit card programs, including limits, approvals, portfolio performance, and marketing strategies. Member & Community Engagement Serve as the primary ambassador for the Credit Union’s business lending solutions. Build strong relationships with business members, referral sources, economic development partners, and community organizations. Provide financial education and outreach to enhance the Credit Union’s reputation as a trusted business advisor. Identify opportunities to expand the Credit Union’s business lending footprint and market presence in the communities UCCU serves. Team Leadership & Development Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing business lending team, including loan officers, underwriters, and support staff. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, service excellence, and professional growth. Provide coaching and guidance on complex loan structuring, SBA requirements, and relationship management. Maintain regular communication, feedback, and performance management with team members. Works a regular and predictable schedule. Must be sufficiently fluent in English to process work and business transactions.PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS Department functions are effectively and efficiently completed in accordance with established Credit Union policies, procedures, standards, and related program and legal requirements. Safe and sound lending practices are maintained. Achievement of annual business loan growth and profitability goals are met. Department policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and modified as needed. Appropriate Departmental and employee goals are formulated and achieved. Loan documents, account records, and related files are complete, accurate, and timely. Department personnel are well trained, effective, efficiently utilized, and well supervised. Professional business relations exist with members and external business contacts. Questions and problems are promptly and courteously resolved. Effective working relations exist with Credit Union personnel and management. Portfolio quality metrics met including delinquency rates, net charge-off ratio, loan concentrations, and compliance exceptionsQualificationsEDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field; or equivalent work experience required.Required Knowledge& SKILLS: Strong knowledge of NCUA regulations, MBL requirements, and SBA Standard operating procedures (SOP’s). Advanced credit analysis, loan structuring, and risk assessment skills. Effective leadership, communication, and relationship management abilities. Strategic thinker with strong analytical and decision-making skills.EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in commercial or business lending, including SBA lending programs. Proven track record in portfolio growth, risk management, and loan program development.
