About The RoleThis position requires the successful candidate to work on a W2 directly with FDM. We cannot accept C2C, 1099 or employment sponsorship (e.g. H1-B) for this position.FDM is a global business and technology consultancy delivering client and industry driven solutions through our 5 core specialist Practices; Software Engineering, Data & Analytics, IT Operations, Change & Transformation, and Risk, Regulation & Compliance.FDM is seeking a Data Modeler located in Chicago to support a project in the mining and metals sector. Involvement in this project is anticipated to last initially 12 months but may be extended.This role will be hybrid with requirements to be in office 3 days per week. OverviewClient is seeking a Data Modeler to support the design and delivery of scalable data solutions across its global platform landscape. This role will focus on building robust, business-aligned data models that enable analytics, AI, and enterprise reporting across key domains.The successful candidate will work closely with data engineers, platform owners, and business stakeholders across regions (e.g., Chicago, Montreal, Singapore) within a modern cloud-based data ecosystem.Key ResponsibilitiesData Modeling & DesignDesign and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models for enterprise data platformsTranslate business requirements into scalable data structures supporting analytics, reporting, and AI use casesDefine data standards, naming conventions, and governance practicesPlatform & Engineering CollaborationPartner with data engineers to implement models in:Azure Data Platform (Synapse, ADLS, Fabric)Databricks / Lakehouse architecturesSupport integration across systems such as SAP S/4 HANA and other operational platformsOptimize data models for performance, scalability, and cost efficiencyData Strategy & GovernanceContribute to enterprise data architecture and modeling frameworksEnsure alignment with data governance, quality, and lineage standardsSupport metadata management and documentationStakeholder EngagementCollaborate with business stakeholders (finance, operations, supply chain) to:Capture requirementsDrive clarity on KPI definitions and reporting needsCommunicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiencesRequired Skills & ExperienceCore Technical SkillsStrong experience in data modelingProficiency in:Dimensional modeling (Kimball) and/or Data Vault / normalized modelsHands-on experience with:Azure data services (Synapse, Data Factory, Fabric preferred)Databricks / Spark-based environmentsSQL and data transformation pipelinesEnterprise SystemsExperience integrating data from:SAP S/4 HANA (highly desirable)ERP or operational mining/industrial systemsTools & PracticesData modeling tools (e.g., ERwin, ER/Studio, PowerDesigner, or similar)Understanding of:Data governanceData quality frameworksMetadata managementPreferred / Nice-to-HaveExposure to AI / Copilot-enabled analytics environmentsExperience with Palantir Foundry (nice to have, not required)Background in mining, energy, or heavy industryExperience working in global or distributed teamsAbout UsAbout FDMFDM powers the people behind tech and innovation.
