This role is built for engineers who know how to improve throughput, eliminate bottlenecks, and drive measurable operational performance inside complex manufacturing environments.If you are hands-on, data-driven, and comfortable working directly on the production floor to improve processes across fabrication, welding, paint, assembly, and shipping operations, this opportunity aligns with your skill set.Position SummaryThe Senior Industrial Engineer will lead manufacturing improvement initiatives focused on productivity, efficiency, quality, safety, and long-term operational scalability. This position supports an engineered-to-order manufacturing environment and requires strong collaboration across production, supply chain, quality, engineering, and leadership teams.Job ResponsibilitiesLead plant-wide continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, safety, and cost reductionAnalyze and optimize workflows across fabrication, welding, paint, assembly, and shipping operationsDevelop labor standards, staffing plans, capacity models, and production metricsIdentify production bottlenecks and implement sustainable process improvements to increase throughput and improve on-time deliveryDesign and improve plant layouts, workstation ergonomics, material flow systems, and factory organizationLead root cause analysis and corrective actions related to downtime, scrap, rework, and operational inefficienciesCreate and maintain SOPs, standard work documentation, and operational best practicesEvaluate automation opportunities, capital equipment investments, and ROI-driven manufacturing improvementsPartner with Production, Quality, Safety, Supply Chain, and Engineering leadership teams to execute operational prioritiesMentor junior engineers and support the development of a continuous improvement culture throughout the facilityQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field5 to 15 years of Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering experience in a production environmentStrong background in metal fabrication, welding, heavy manufacturing, job shop, or engineered-to-order manufacturing environments preferredProven success implementing Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, 5S, value stream mapping, and continuous improvement initiativesExperience with labor studies, line balancing, plant layout development, capacity planning, and KPI managementStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to turn operational data into measurable improvementsComfortable leading projects and influencing cross-functional teams without direct authorityERP and MRP system experience requiredCAD experience preferredSix Sigma certification or equivalent continuous improvement training is a plusWhat Success Looks LikeImproved plant throughput and labor efficiencyReduced bottlenecks, waste, scrap, and reworkBetter production flow and stronger on-time delivery performanceStandardized manufacturing processes that support future operational growthIncreased operational discipline and process consistency across departmentsAbout STS Technical ServicesSTS Technical Services is a Top 100 Staffing Firm that partners with some of the largest names in aerospace, manufacturing, defense, and industrial operations.
