To meet instructional needs, adjunct faculty are integral to the curriculum and faculty structure in the Division of Nursing (DON). Without adjunct faculty, the DON would be unable to meet its instructional needs. Adjunct faculty positions allow the DON to hire experienced nurse educators, clinicians, and practitioners to assist in meeting the division's mission, vision, and objectives. Adjunct faculty focus principally on excellence in instruction and engagement. In addition to classroom, clinical, and/or online instruction, adjunct faculty provide clinical and practicum supervision of nursing students and collaborate with healthcare agencies, professional organizations, and other constituencies. They are critical to implementing the curriculum, supervising students, and achieving learning outcomes. Adjunct faculty coach and mentor students during the academic experience and beyond.Primary Responsibilities and DutiesTeach the required number of credit hours per semester based on contract.Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to teaching primary care family practice.Develop, implement, evaluate, and update the purpose, philosophy, objectives, and organizational framework of the Nursing program.Assist in designing, implementing, and evaluating the curriculum using a written plan.Provide mentoring and guidance to students in assigned courses.Plan and provide theoretical instruction and clinical or laboratory experiences that reflect the philosophy, objectives, and curriculum of the MSN-FNP program and the nursing profession.Evaluate student achievement of curricular objectives/outcomes related to nursing knowledge and practice.Schedule administrative time for classroom, laboratory, clinical preparation, and student meetings as required.Perform other similar duties as assigned.Hold an earned Doctorate, Master's, or MSN for the didactic or clinical role with clinical expertise in primary care family practice.Have at least two years of full-time professional nursing clinical experience.Hold current certification in Basic Life Support.Maintain strong interpersonal skills and positive energy regarding professional education and the role of Nurse Practitioner.Collaborate effectively with faculty members and students, facilitating mastery of skills and competencies.Show evidence of continued professional development and/or certification in a specialty area of practice and professional organization.Model professionalism in social and civic areas and demonstrate the ability to teach culturally and linguistically diverse student populations.Exhibit excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.Be able to perform the requirements of the job description.Hold a current, unencumbered/unrestricted RN license in North Carolina or be eligible to obtain one.Requirements and PreferencesMust hold an earned MSN for didactic or clinical practice role.Must hold a PharmD degree to teach pharmacology.At least two years of full-time professional nursing clinical experience (if clinical practice position).Strong interpersonal skills and positive energy regarding professional education.Ability to collaborate effectively with other faculty members and with students.Excellent verbal, written, and electronic communication skills.Ability to perform the requirements of the job description (previously listed).Hold a current, unencumbered/unrestricted RN license in North Carolina or be eligible to obtain one and certification as a family nurse practitioner.Department Required SkillsDemonstrated clinical expertise in specialty area.Teach the application of theoretical nursing skills in clinical practice.Teach applications of theoretical nursing skills in online and face-to-face environments.Effective management of conflict and time.Provide student performance evaluative feedback.Be able to travel up to 2 hours to various clinical sites in personal transportation for student clinical evaluation.Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, EducationPhD (DNP preferred)Two years, preferred, of full-time teaching experience in a nursing or healthcare program.Required License or CertificationCurrent unrestricted RN license in North Carolina.For NP clinical courses, AANP or AANC nurse practitioner/nurse midwife certification.Other RequirementsValid US Driver's License: No.Commercial Driver's License Required: No.Physical Required: No.Must complete Division of Nursing 12-panel drug screen upon hiring.Posting DetailsInternal Posting Only: No.Position Type: Temporary.Time Limited Position: Yes.Appointment Length: 1-2 Semesters.Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.Open Date: 12/01/2025.Close Date: 05/31/2026.Open Until Filled: No.Special Instructions Summary: Please Note: A criminal background check will be conducted on candidate finalist prior to the offer of employment.If no applicants meet the required competency and T&E requirements, management may consider other applicants.
