Position Purpose Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. The ABA therapist applies the understanding of how behavior works to real situations to increase behaviors that are helpful and decrease behaviors that are harmful or affect learning. Following evidence-based principles, the employee in this position at Poppys Promise provides ABA interventions across multiple settings according to the organizations mission and values. The ABA Therapist encourages positive social replacement behaviors so those receiving services can build and improve upon their communication, social interaction, and problem-solving skills. The ABA Therapist at Poppys Promise adheres to the provision of supports that are individualized and that meet kids and families where they are on lifes journey. The successful ABA Therapist does not allow personal judgements and biases to enter in to the therapy relationship but seeks to build skills and confidence for those receiving services so that success and independence can be achieved. Major Duties and responsibilities Demonstrate all competencies for a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), as outlined in the RBT Task List and Ethical Code provided by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB). Take responsibility to arrange and receive adequate supervision with Responsible Certificant (Board Certified Behavior Analyst -BCBA) in a timely manner. Complete all required training. Conduct ABA sessions in any setting (home, school, clinic, community) as outlined in each persons program. Work consistently as part of a team to ensure the person and his/her family receives the highest quality therapy possible. Demonstrate and train ABA principles/programs to fellow ABA Therapists/RBTs. Demonstrate and train ABA principles/programs to caregivers/families. Complete caseload management services (notes, billing, log books, program evaluation, input regarding plan updates, skills assessments/re-assessments, etc.) completely and in a timely manner. Collect accurate, truthful, and complete data that captures the true skills or occurrence of behavior (behavior to reduce and skill acquisition). Daily data collection during ABA sessions for each scheduled session. Weekly upload of raw data sheets of caseload assignment to Team site. For each session, give encouragement through positive feedback (and assurance when giving difficult feedback). Qualifications Qualifications include: Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) designation or willingness to attain that designation. Bachelors degree in a Human Services related field (preferred, but not required). Two years experience working with Autism Spectrum Disorders or other developmental disabilities. Valid drivers license and proof of vehicle insurance. Ability to complete and pass all criminal and personal background checks as well as initial and random drug screens. Ability to communicate verbally and orally in order to: o Complete required forms and reports of services provided. o Follow oral and written instructions. o Communicate with an individual using the individuals preferred mode of communication. Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality and professionalism throughout all aspects of work duties. Ability to stand for extended periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to respond to situations where individuals may attempt to run to or from and area (i.e. a small child running out into the street). Work conditions The ABA Therapist will work in office (clinic), home, and community settings. Work schedule will be primarily weekdays, with some evenings and weekends scheduled as needed.
