Manufacturing Engineer
Applied Composites (AC) is seeking an Engineer, Manufacturing who will work within a multi-functional environment to support the manufacturing of mission critical aerospace hardware. The ME works to create tooling methodologies, develop new manufacturing processes, and solve composite manufacturing challenges. The Engineer must have a skilled understanding fiber-reinforced composite material processing, aerospace part manufacturing techniques, composites material performance characteristics, and the equipment used to manufacture and test composite parts.About AC: Come and join the Applied Composites team. If you are looking for a company that values and develops its employees while offering engaging work, Applied Composites may be the place for you.Job Accountabilities:Develop manufacturing methods and processes, tooling details, and equipment specifications for current and new development programsDevelop engineering Bill of Materials and estimate labor hours using historical dataWork with company buyers to obtain raw material and specialty tooling necessary to complete the manufacturing tasksCreation and support of Manufacturing Readiness Review packages prior to first-part buildsDevelop manufacturing plans and detailed work instructions necessary for hardware fabricationEvaluate alternative composite materials and processes that improve component properties, reduce costs, and increase efficiency by performing trade studies and testingOversee and contribute to engineering build projects from start to finish, ensuring that the project is executed on timeProvide ongoing engineering assistance to the Operations department including troubleshooting of process operating problems, conducting special tests, developing reports, providing technical assistance, and aiding in design modificationsJob Specifications:Education: Post-secondary degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience that will allow successful performance of job expectationsYears' Experience: 3 - 7 years of experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment (Level 2 or 3)Skills:Demonstrates competency in the processing of composite materials, including hand lay-up, vacuum bagging techniques, adhesive bonding, and assemblyAbility to read and interpret customer specifications and 2D engineering drawings with an in-depth knowledge of GD&T; and the ability to interrogate 3D CAD models to extract all engineering requirementsExperience with process development planning including deconstruction of all relevant engineering requirements, creating engineering bill of materials (BOMs), developing manufacturing process flows, identifying tooling solutions, and estimating labor hours through all phases of the manufacturing processExperience defining or designing tooling requirements for lay-up molds and mandrels, trim & drill fixtures, manufacturing aids, and specialty hand tools used in fabrication of complex composite structures.Strong Microsoft Excel userExcellent writing and communication skills with ability to create clear and succinct presentations and reports to communicate processes and project results with internal and external customersAbility to write clear and conforming work instructionsKnowledge of standard aerospace industry specifications and practicesProficient in the manipulation of 3D part definition using CAD softwareExperience in development & optimization of composite flat patterns using FiberSim ply generation software is a plusBenefits:At Applied Composites, we recognize how important your career and benefits are to you and your family.
