Position Title: Full Time Custodian (NY)Summary: The role of the Full Time Custodian under the direct supervision of the School Director, Director of Facilities, & Facilities Supervisor is to perform general cleaning and maintenance in school buildings and grounds. To provide safe, clean, sanitary and organized interior and exterior spaces that provide a suitable environment for learning. This position is subject to a 90-day probationary period to ensure a successful fit within the school community.Performs related duties and general maintenance work as required.Compensation: (Day) $44,400 (Night) $45,500 2026/2027 School YearQualificationsAny combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:High School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance is desirable.A valid driver's license is preferred.Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the CEO finds appropriate and acceptable. Performance ResponsibilitiesConducts morning/night assessments of condition of building, parking lots, playgroundsAddresses and or reports all possible hazardous conditions to ADO and/or Custodial SupervisorConducts morning assessments of interior of buildingsChecks all bathrooms, classrooms and common areas and ensures all lights and equipment is operational as necessary for school activityEnsures that all HVAC systems are operational and temperatures are comfortable, reports any issues to ADO and/or Custodial SupervisorIs familiar with the normal operation of any heating boilers, furnaces, air conditioners, mini split systems, thermostats throughout the buildingReplaces or cleans filters for mini split systems, window ACs, furnaces.Maintains logs for boilers indicating proper operation, deficiencies or repairsReports any leaks, damage or deficiencies to the floors, ceilings, walls, and or fixturesEnsures that doors used while building is occupied operate in accordance with all security measures in mindEnsures that offices, classrooms, building doors, and windows are closed and locked before departing campusIs familiar with protocols related to security such as lockdowns, shelter in place, evacuation and fire drillsIs familiar with operation and procedures for fire alarms.Maintains boiler room and electrical rooms and stairwells and hallways free of storage and or clutterElectrical boxes must have 36 inches of clearance as per NFPAStandpipes, meters, and sprinkler controls must be kept accessibleMonitors all annual and semiannual inspections of the building such as sprinkler, standpipe, suppression systems, fire extinguisher, hood cleanings and grease trap and reports any lapses to administration Receives and reports any deliveries to the buildingPerforms duties to maintain building in good appearance and order such asSnow removalLawn mowingLeaf Blowing, collection, removalCuts down foliageClears walkwaysPressure washingPaintingPerform minor repairs on door hardware, furniture, and fixtures.Replace light bulbs and ceiling tiles as needed.Unclog sinks, toilets, and drains; perform minor plumbing repairs.Patch and touch up paint on walls and surfaces.Inspect and replace air filters in HVAC units as requested by supervisors.Clean diffusers quarterly after filter replacements.Assemble and move furniture as needed.Ensure school grounds are free of debris and assist with minor landscaping tasks.Identify and report major maintenance issues to supervisors for further action.Maintains all equipment and machines such as all cleaning solvents, floor scrubbers, stripping, and buffing machinesMoves furniture as requested by school administration or facilities departmentConducts all work with attention to safety and detailVisually inspects systems such as lighting, electrical outlets, fixtures, plumbing leaks. Performs any minor repairs related. Reports to ADO any item that requires specialized attention.Prepares rooms, offices, common areas for activities such as assemblies presentations, lunch, breakfast and meetings and extracurricular activitiesSets up tablesMops and sweeps floorEnsures that floor is free of debris or trashProvides trash containers and removes trash as neededWipes tables using appropriate solventsCleans and sanitizes bathrooms, offices, conference rooms and lounges and common areasStocks toilet paper, hand soap, paper towels where necessaryStocks lounge with coffee, cups, water cooler refillsEnsures that all sinks are wiped down, sanitizes water fountains and bottle fillers, replaces water fountain filters when necessaryKeeps areas free from spills, trash and debris, sweeps and mops when necessaryRemoves garbage between lunch periods in the cafeteria to maintain cleanliness and sanitation.Monitor and maintain janitorial supplies by tracking inventory, placing orders as needed, and reporting supply needs to supervisors to ensure adequate stock levels.Deep cleans and sanitizes nurses office and other high traffic areasWipes down with sanitizer all high contact areas throughout the building such as handles, knobs, doors, push bars, railings etc.Sanitizes nurses office paying close attention to chairs, beds, desk, sink and bathroom where availableResponds to emergencies such asSpillsMedical situations such as vomit, blood, other bodily fluids always maintaining and using safe practices as dictated by blood borne pathogen trainingsAny other calls for assistance made by the school Administration Responds promptly to emergencies, including but not limited to:Spills and leaksMedical incidents (e.g., vomit, blood, other bodily fluids) while adhering to bloodborne pathogen protocols.Flooding, fire, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing emergencies/clean-upAny situation posing a health, safety, or operational risk that may lead to school closureActs as a frontline responder for facility-related emergencies, following supervisor's directions to mitigate risks.May be required to report to assigned campuses 24/7 as needed.Coordinates with school administration and external emergency services when necessary.Attends trainings as required by the State of New Jersey and Facilities Department, submits all appropriate documentation in a timely mannerHas and maintains the ability to lift and carry 50 lbsIs able to work in inclement weather, hot and cold environmentsMaintains all appropriate medical clearance to perform dutyMust be available to work the custodial schedule, which includes duties during December and Spring breaks, as well as snow removal, even during school closures and emergencies.
