Java Software Engineer

Engineer II – Java / AWSOptomi, in partnership with a leading automotive technology organization, is seeking an Engineer II to join a team focused on building and supporting modern cloud-based applications. The ideal candidate will bring strong backend development experience with Java, Spring Boot, AWS, and Terraform, along with a solid understanding of software development best practices. This is a hybrid position based in Plano, TX, requiring onsite work Tuesday and Thursday.What the right candidate will enjoy:Build and support cloud-based applications that contribute to innovative automotive technology solutions.Work primarily on the backend using Java, Spring Boot, AWS, and modern cloud technologies.Take ownership of development work while collaborating with engineers, product teams, and business stakeholders.Work with AWS services such as Lambda, SQS, and DynamoDB to build scalable and reliable applications.Contribute to a team that values clean code, continuous learning, testing, and strong engineering practices.Responsibilities of the right candidate:Design, develop, test, and maintain production-ready applications using Java and Spring Boot.Develop cloud-based solutions using AWS services including Lambda, SQS, DynamoDB, and other AWS technologies.Build and maintain infrastructure using Terraform and infrastructure-as-code practices.Contribute throughout the full software development lifecycle from requirements and design through testing and deployment.Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code while following established development standards.Troubleshoot, debug, and improve existing applications to maintain performance and reliability.Support continuous integration and delivery of software components into fully functional systems.Participate in end-to-end user testing and work with customers to ensure solutions meet business needs.Collaborate with other engineers and provide technical guidance to junior team members.Experience of the right candidate:5+ years of professional software development experience.Strong backend development experience using Java.Hands-on experience building production-ready applications with Spring, Spring Boot, Quarkus, or a similar Java framework.Strong experience developing applications in AWS cloud environments, particularly with services such as Lambda, SQS, and DynamoDB.Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tools.Experience with JPA, JDBC, or similar Java persistence technologies.Strong understanding of software testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and application development best practices.Experience with Kubernetes and Docker is a plus.Experience working with additional programming languages such as Python is a plus.Understanding of application security, privacy, performance, and cloud architecture is preferred.
