Senior Backend Engineer Location: New YorkCompensation: $250–400K baseWe’re hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to join a small, high-caliber team building a high-scale consumer platform.This is a product-oriented backend role focused on designing and owning the systems that power real user experiences.You’ll be working on core application-level systems like onboarding, messaging, notifications, and other customer-facing workflows that directly shape how users interact with the product.What You’ll Work OnDesign and build end-to-end backend systems that power critical user workflowsOwn application architecture, including API design, data modeling, and service boundariesBuild scalable, low-latency services that support real-time user interactionsDefine and implement authorization models, permissions, and user-level access patternsDesign systems that handle concurrency, consistency, and reliability at scaleWork closely with product and design to translate user needs into robust backend systemsWhat We’re Looking ForWe’re looking for engineers who have:4+ years of experience building backend systems in productionStrong experience designing customer-facing workflows (e.g. onboarding, messaging, ordering, booking, etc.)A track record of owning systems end-to-end - from design through to productionExperience building and scaling APIs that directly support product featuresStrong understanding of application-layer challenges (data modeling, permissions, workflows, consistency)Experience working on high-traffic or real-time systemsWhy This RoleReal ownership → design systems, not maintain existing onesWork on a product built for high scale from day oneSmall, highly technical team → high impact, high autonomyCompetitive compensation
