We are growing and seeking an experienced, licensed CPA to join our team in a role focused on tax preparation and tax planning, with secondary focus on monthly clients. This position can be part-time to full-time, as client demand grows and as the candidate desires. About the Role We are looking for someone who loves to build relationships with clients, is warm and approachable, can prepare accurate, well-reviewed tax returns and also think proactively alongside clients throughout the year. This is not a compliance-only position. You will work closely with our founding CPA to serve an existing client base and support new client onboarding as the firm grows. The ideal candidate is technically sharp, comfortable working independently in a remote environment, and genuinely interested in helping small business owners understand their tax position — not just file a return. Must live within a 20 mile radius of Mapleton, UT. Key Responsibilities Tax Preparation Prepare federal and state income tax returns for individuals (1040), S-Corporations (1120-S), partnerships (1065), and LLCs Review prior-year returns and identify errors, missed elections, or missed opportunities before preparing current-year returns Manage extension filings and ensure estimated tax payments are calculated accurately and on time Coordinate with clients to gather documentation efficiently and with minimal back-and-forth Review returns prepared by others for accuracy, completeness, and optimization opportunities Ensure proper purchase price allocation and treatment of depreciation, amortization, and asset disposals Tax Planning Conduct mid-year and year-end tax planning calls with clients to project liability and identify strategies Identify and implement applicable tax strategies including entity structure, retirement contributions, depreciation elections, accountable plans, PTE elections, and timing of income and deductions Analyze short-term and long-term rental tax treatment and advise accordingly Support S-Corp reasonable compensation analysis and documentation Assist with tax planning for business acquisitions, sales, and ownership transitions Research tax issues and document positions clearly for client files Accounting & Client Support Perform bank, credit card, and loan reconciliations accurately and on schedule Review, maintain, and correct charts of accounts ensuring proper classification and GAAP alignment Prepare, review, and correct financial statements including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements Support month-end and year-end closing procedures including accrual entries and adjusting journal entries Work with clients professionally to request missing information, clarify transactions, and communicate findings Maintain organized documentation and follow internal workflows and best practices Required Qualifications Active CPA license in good standing — required 5+ years of hands-on tax preparation experience across individual and business returns Demonstrated experience with tax planning and proactive client advisory work Strong command of federal and state tax law including recent changes Experience preparing 1040, 1120-S, 1065, and related schedules Strong understanding of GAAP, accrual accounting, and adjusting entries Proven ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously and meet deadlines Bachelor's degree in Accounting or closely related field High level of accuracy, confidentiality, and professional judgment Excellent written and verbal communication skills — able to explain tax concepts clearly to non-accountants Comfortable working independently in a remote environment with minimal oversight Preferred Skills Experience with QuickBooks Online, ProSeries or ProConnect Familiarity with S-Corp reasonable compensation, accountable plans, and entity structuring Experience advising on real estate taxation including short-term and long-term rental strategies Strong problem-solving instincts — able to identify what is wrong and fix it, not just report it Interest in growing into a broader advisory and client-facing role over time Position Details Position Type Part-time employee with path to full-time based on firm growth and performance Location Hybrid — flexible scheduling with availability during core business hours Experience 5+ years of tax and accounting experience; active CPA license required Compensation Competitive — commensurate with experience, qualifications, and hours Reports To Founding CPA / Principal Why Rise?
