We pride ourselves on responsive scheduling and a thorough vetting process to ensure the highest standards of service.Role DescriptionThis is a contractor role for a Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) at our Portland, OR, location. The Certified Deaf Interpreter will provide culturally and linguistically appropriate interpretation services for Deaf and DeafBlind individuals in a variety of settings, including medical, legal, and educational. Day-to-day responsibilities include collaborating with other ASL interpreters, facilitating clear communication between clients and service providers, ensuring accuracy, and maintaining professional standards of ethics and confidentiality. The role requires adaptability, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to handle diverse situations with empathy and cultural sensitivity.QualificationsProven experience as a Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), including proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and understanding of Deaf culture.Experience in both consecutive and simultaneous interpretation, particularly in medical, legal, or educational contexts.Strong knowledge of cultural nuances and sensitivity toward the diversity within the Deaf and DeafBlind communities.Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.Ability to adapt to a variety of settings and work effectively with diverse individuals and teams.Current CDI certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).Experience working with DeafBlind individuals and tactile interpreting is highly preferred.Legal interpreting training or experience is a plus.Basic technological proficiency to work with video remote and digital interpretation tools.Commitment to ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality.
