Position Overview Synergist Computing is seeking a highly skilled Network Engineer to support the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, D.C. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle of advanced network technologies within a highly realistic, mission-relevant tactical environment. You will design, develop, test, deploy, and analyze innovative networking solutions under simulated operational constraints that mirror real-world naval and defense scenarios. This position blends network engineering, test engineering, and performance analysis within a sophisticated tactical testbed environment. This is a hybrid role, requiring 3 days per week on-site at NRL and 2 days remote. Key Responsibilities Network Architecture & Development Design, architect, and implement advanced network solutions optimized for tactical and mission-critical environments. Develop Layer 2 and Layer 3 network architectures supporting high-performance, resilient communications. Evaluate emerging networking technologies and integrate them into existing environments. Tactical Environment Emulation & Testing Deploy and configure network technologies within a realistic emulated tactical testbed. Utilize tools such as CORE and EMANE to replicate operational constraints and battlefield conditions. Conduct rigorous functional and performance testing of network designs. Deployment & Systems Integration Integrate networking solutions with mission-critical systems and applications. Troubleshoot complex interoperability and integration issues. Maintain high availability, resiliency, and operational reliability. Performance Analysis & Reporting Collect and analyze detailed performance metrics (latency, throughput, packet loss, jitter, reliability, security posture). Use tools such as Wireshark and tcpdump for packet-level analysis. Produce comprehensive technical reports and performance assessments. Recommend optimizations based on quantitative data and mission requirements. Automation & DevOps Integration Develop scripts (Python, Bash) to automate testing and configuration tasks.
