Sr. Buyer Commodity Managers

Our electronics manufacturing client has an IMMEDIATE need for Sr. Buyers/ Commodity Managers. Sr. Buyers/ Commodity ManagerPay rate is $65/hr. to $75/hr.Must be available on-site at the Syracuse, NY facility for initial 4-week engagement. On- site presence is non-negotiable duringthe ramp period.Remote work arrangements may be considered after the initial period at the sole discretion of the Sr. Director of Global Supply Chain, based on demonstrated performance and operational stability.Purchase Order ExecutionPlace purchaseorders in SAP per MRP/business requirements; ensure 100% PO coverage against demand signal.Process new requisitions (PRs) and convertto POs with accurate pricing,lead times, and delivery schedules.Ensure POs comply with approved supplierlists, contracted pricing,and internal approvalworkflows.Maintain strong PO discipline— no open PRs beyond defined aging thresholds.Lead Time Management & GovernanceAudit currentSAP material master lead times against actualsupplier-confirmed lead times.Establish a repeatable lead time updatecadence (bi-weekly or monthly) with a definedprocess, template, and ownership.Coordinate with suppliers to obtain confirmed lead time data; load updates into SAP to ensure MRP runs on accurate parameters.Document lead time governance process for handoffto permanent hire.Pull-Ins and Push-OutsReview open order book daily; identify pull-in and push-out opportunities based on currentdemand signals.Negotiate schedulechanges directly with suppliers; confirmand update PO delivery datesin SAP.Coordinate with production scheduling to align materialavailability with build schedules.Clear-to-Build (CTB) — RevenueMaximizationPartner with production planningto identify near-term builds at risk of materialshortages.Drive CTB status for all active work orders — proactively surface material gaps and resolve or escalate.Support weeklyCTB review meetings;provide accurate materialstatus updates.Prioritize order placement and expediting to protect committed revenue.Shortage Reduction & Expedite ManagementMaintain and own the master expeditetracker — current,accurate, and actionableat all times.Proactively contactsuppliers on at-riskdeliveries; escalate as appropriate.Communicate shortage trends clearly and consistently to stakeholders — trending direction, root causes, and resolution timeline.Implement a structured shortageelimination process targetingweek-over-week reduction in open shortage count.PO Cancellations & Deferrals (WorkingCapital Management)Identify and cancel or defer POs where demandhas been reduced,cancelled, or pushedout.Work with procurement team to align open order book to current demand signal — prevent excess inventory build.Support workingcapital reduction targetsby minimizing inventoryliability on excess/obsolete risk items.Exception MessageProcessing (SAP MRP)Process 1,000+open SAP exception messages (reschedule in, reschedule out, cancel, create)on a priority-driven basis.Establish a daily cadenceto work exceptionmessages down to a manageable queue.Ensure action is taken — or exception is documented and deferred — within definedSLA.On-Site Buyer Support & DisciplineWork alongsidethe resident buyingteam to reinforce purchasing best practices and SAP discipline.Serve as a force multiplier — helping buyers prioritize, organize,and execute against backlog.Identify processgaps and recommend improvements that can be institutionalized by the permanent team.Qualifications5+ years of direct,hands-on procurement / purchasing experience in a manufacturing environmentDemonstrated SAP proficiency — ME21N, ME22N, ME2N, MD04, MRP exception processing (not conceptual — must be able to execute from day one)Experience managinga multi-commodity metals, plastics, steel, casing, and packaging.Proven track record in shortage management, expediting, and supplierschedule negotiationStrongunderstanding of MRP / Inventory planning principles and lead time
