Select how often (in days) to receive an alert:Coordinator, School Safety & Emergency PreparednessJob Function: AdministrationDepartment: Dept-Safety and SecuritySummaryThe Coordinator, School Safety & Emergency Preparedness serves as a key leader in the development, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive school safety and emergency management programs across the district. This position focuses on emergency preparedness planning, crisis response coordination, emergency drills, school reunification operations, and campus safety assessments. The incumbent ensures schools are operationally ready to prevent, respond to, and recover from emergencies in alignment with NIMS, ICs principles, and state/federal best practices. This position requires 24/7 on-call availability to support critical incidents and emergency activations.ResponsibilitiesDevelop, implement, and evaluate district-wide emergency operations plans (EOPs) for schools and central office locations, including plans for each school site location for reunification, including non-school sites.Lead the design, coordination, and documentation of required emergency drills (lockdown, evacuation, reunification, severe weather, fire, etc.).Coordinate development and maintenance of school-based crisis response teams, maintain live connection for all contacts and contact information in Crisis Go and other district systems.Serve as the backup crisis coordinator, during critical incidents, supporting or assuming coordination of district emergency response operations when needed.Assist the Director of Safety & Security in managing incident response activities, coordinating with school leadership, first responders, and district departments, and ensuring implementation of established emergency management and incident command protocols to support the safety and security of students, staff, and visitors.Coordinate with School Police, first responders, and local/state emergency management agencies.Assist with crisis stabilization, operational continuity, and recovery planning.Develop and maintain standardized reunification protocols for all district schools.Create site-based reunification plans, maps and other documentation to support reunification at local sites in emergency situations.Plan, train, and exercise reunification site teams.Coordinate logistics for transportation, student accountability, communications, and parent release procedures.Conduct after-action reviews to improve reunification effectiveness.Ensure compliance with state mandates and Department of Homeland Security exercise standards. Develop and lead district-wide tabletop exercises annually, and four quarterly small group tabletop/workshop exercises annually.Provide scenario-based training for principals, school emergency teams, and district leadership.Evaluate drill performance and develop corrective action plans.Ensure documentation and reporting of all required drills and exercises.Conduct safety and vulnerability assessments of school campuses.Identify infrastructure, procedural, and operational gaps.Collaborate with Facilities, Security, and Administration to recommend corrective measures.Support security system integration and access control standards.Develop and deliver training programs for administrators and staff on crisis response protocols, incident command roles, reunification procedures, emergency communications systems.Provide coaching and technical assistance to school-based emergency coordinators.Maintain strong presentation skills and deliver professional, executive-level briefings.Use data and after-action reports to improve district safety strategies.Support safety-related grant development and compliance.Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to strengthen district readiness.Maintain critical infrastructure documentation and emergency contact systems.Participate in district emergency planning committees.Support Board policy implementation related to safety and security.Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Safety & Security or appropriate administrator.Required EducationBachelor's Degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Homeland Security, Education Leadership, or related field required.Certification/LicensureNIMS/ICS certifications required (ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800); Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or Georgia Professional Emergency Manager (GEMA) certification required.Experience QualificationsMinimum 5 years of experience in emergency management, crisis response, public safety, or school safety; demonstrated experience planning and executing emergency drills and exercises; conducting risk assessments and site safety evaluations; experience with school reunification operations preferred.Knowledge/Skills/AbilitiesStrong knowledge of National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS)Experience designing and evaluating exercises under Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) guidelinesAbility to plan, organize, and manage complex emergency preparedness initiativesExcellent written and verbal communication skillsStrong presentation and facilitation skillsAbility to work effectively under high-stress conditionsStrong organizational and analytical skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities simultaneouslyHigh level of professional judgment and decision-making abilityProficiency in Microsoft Office SuiteAbility to collaborate with multidisciplinary teamsMust pass criminal history and background investigationWorking ConditionsCombination of office environment and field-based school site visitsExposure to emergency and crisis environmentsEvening and weekend work may be required24/7 on-call availability requiredPhysical DemandsRoutine physical activity associated with office and site-based environmentsAbility to travel between district facilitiesAbility to respond to active emergency environments when necessaryPosting ID: 33706It is the policy of the Fulton County School System not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, age, or disability in any employment practice, educational program, or any other program, activity, or service.
