Litigation Legal Assistant
Description:
Legal Assistant / Legal Secretary needed for growing law firm in Edina, MN, working in the area of litigation. Assistant must be proactive and willing to take initiative and ownership. Ideal candidate has 3+ years of prior legal experience, as well as strong computer and word processing skills. Prefer those experienced with digital dictation and DM systems. Organization skills and attention to details a must. Good salary and benefits. Resumes submitted without a cover letter will not be considered.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Provides secretarial support to attorneys
Transcribes dictation and prepares documents
Prepares correspondence of a confidential nature
Arranges meetings and appointments, calendars same
Prioritizes mail
Answers routine correspondence
Answers, screens, directs and places telephone calls
Obtains and maintains working knowledge of attorney’s area of practice
May enter time sheets for attorneys
Has knowledge/is familiar with specialized legal policies, procedures, formats and terminology
Assists the firm’s lawyers in the delivery of legal services
May also, under the supervision of a lawyer, perform substantive legal work that requires knowledge of legal concepts
May draft legal documents; compile, analyze and summarize data, perform legal research through computerized networks
May utilize software applications/databases to manage complex legal matters
May have client contact.
Prepare expense reports on behalf of attorney.

Education and/or Experience
Associate's degree (A.A.S.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or 3 years to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
