Low Voltage Technician
Skill Level: Mid (2-5 years experience)
Key Responsibilities
Deliver professional, customer-focused service on every job site
Read, interpret, and work from construction drawings, blueprints, and cable pathway plans
Install, troubleshoot, and maintain structured cabling systems for voice, data, video, and fiber networks
Pull, route, label, and terminate various cable types including CAT5e/CAT6/CAT6A, coax, and fiber optic
Perform site surveys to determine cable pathways, installation requirements, and material estimates
Terminate, test, and certify copper cabling (RJ45) to industry standards
Install, splice, terminate, and test fiber optic cables (single-mode & multimode)
Ensure all cable pathways are clean, organized, properly dressed, and professional in appearance
Install cabling infrastructure components such as ladder racks, J-hooks, cable trays, innerduct, and conduit
Use cable testers, fiber testers (OTDR preferred), and network tools to validate system performance
Troubleshoot cabling and device issues efficiently and accurately
Install wireless access points and related network hardware
Follow all safety practices, building codes, and industry standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI best practices)
Required Qualifications
Strong communication and customer service skills
Solid problem-solving ability and attention to detail
Proven experience as a Structured Cabling Technician or Low-Voltage Installer
Hands-on experience with CAT5e/6 cable installation, termination, testing, and labeling
Experience working with fiber optic installation, termination, and testing
Ability to identify, install, and repair structured cabling and network infrastructure
Physically able to climb ladders, work overhead, access tight spaces, and lift 40+ lbs
Capable of working in closets, above ceilings, rooftops, and active construction environments
Ability to operate lifts and perform work at heights
Owns basic telecom tools and PPE
Reliable transportation to job sites
Must pass background and drug screenings
Preferred Qualifications
BICSI certification (Technician, Installer, or Installer I/II)
Network “smart hands” tasks
wireless access point installation
Fluke DSX testers
Conduit installation (EMT, innerduct, pathways prep)
