HG AutomationApply for this PositionPosted on 02/21/2026LocationLivonia, Michigan, United StatesDescriptionThe Mechanical engineering manager is responsible for developing and supporting an effective design team that drives customer satisfaction through technical designs for hoppers, feeders, and conveyors within the manufacturing industry.Major Duties & ResponsibilitiesReview and study customer specifications, engineering schematics and other data to determine the design procedures needed to generate and release digital and/or hardcopy printouts related to the engineering and manufacturing requirements.Understand detail and check process and the ability to train employees.Ability to manage multiple projects through the design process.Setting expectations for employees on timing and budgets required to hit release dates, meeting on a weekly cadence to review progress to ensure success in meeting goals.Effectively managing a team, understanding strengths and weaknesses, with regular individual and team meetings reviewing KPIs, evolving processes to help efficiency, training to drive growth, all towards the goal of creating a culture of communication, collaboration, support and clear expectations.Ability to delegate taking into consideration the talent level of employees, positioning the team according to their strengths, while working to build up gap areas.Interact with customers during the quote and design process, in a professional and positive manner to represent Spectrum and set the standard for the design team, seeking to understand their requirements and demands.Write performance assessments annually to drive clear expectations and foster team talent development.Developing and implementing process driven design practices, in addition to establishing design standards.Cross collaboration with the other departments to drive communication and team environment.Mechanical aptitude to learn complex feeding systems.Minimum Skills & AbilitiesExperience with MS Office Suite (Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).Experience troubleshooting problems, finding solutions, and implementing those solutions.Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task effectively.Minimum Education & ExperienceMechanical engineering experience in custom designed solutions.Experience with CAD Systems and software including SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.Experience with CADRA a plus.B.S. Mechanical Engineering a plus.Experience with specialty parts feeding and material handling systems a plus.Experience with electrical and pneumatic controls design a plus.Apply for this PositionBack to All Careers
