Electrical Specialist (Power Generation)Hiring Status: Direct Hire (Permanent) OR Contract/Temporary (Based on candidate preference & availability)Compensation: $40.49/hrSchedule: Day Shift, 40 hours per week (Onsite)Location: New Castle, PA areaPosition OverviewThe Electrical Specialist is a key contributor to the seamless operation and maintenance of diverse electrical systems within a prominent utility-scale power generation facility. Operating as a 328 MW facility utilizing three natural gas-fired steam boilers, the site features specialized equipment including B&W Boilers, Westinghouse Steam Turbine Generators, and an ABB Distributed Control System (DCS).The technician ensures plant reliability, safety, and performance optimization by managing the inspection, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of motors, generators, and heavy high-voltage infrastructure.Key ResponsibilitiesSystem Maintenance: Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and install a wide array of industrial electrical equipment including large motors, generators, transformers, switches, and complex control systems.High-Voltage Operations: Hands-on operation and troubleshooting within standard industrial and high-voltage ranges (480V to 13.8KV).Switchyard Care: Perform basic electrical systems maintenance and diagnostic work within a high-voltage switchyard, adhering strictly to industry safety practices.Isolations & Safety: Execute precise electrical system isolations in accordance with LOTO standards, and provide training or leadership on facility Electrical Safety programs.Technical Analysis: Review procedures, interpret technical instructions specific to the power plant footprint, and leverage strong PC skills for data analysis, system documentation, and team communication.Job Qualifications & RequirementsEducation & CertificationsHigh School or Trade School diploma (or equivalent).Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License at all times.Experience & Technical SkillsCore Experience: Four (4) years of Journeyman Electrician experience desired. Equivalent relevant military backgrounds (e.g., Navy Electrician's Mate / Air Force Electrical Power Production) are highly welcomed.Industry Footprint: Previous electrical maintenance experience within a power plant, utility infrastructure, or heavy industrial facility.Voltage Competency: Proven hands-on experience handling systems ranging from 480V up to 13.8KV.System Familiarity: Familiarity with heavy industrial components (turbines, generators, major switchgear) and complex facility safety/isolation standards.Pre-Employment Testing RequirementTechnical Assessment: Prior to final selection, all qualified candidates must complete and pass a comprehensive, high-level electrical examination.Details: The exam has a 3-hour time limit. It is highly technical and requires extensive math proficiency, covering topics such as Ohm's Law, Kirchhoff's Law, and structural circuit calculations. Deep familiarity with the Uglies Electrical References framework is strongly recommended.
