Position SummaryThe Gang Saw Operator is responsible for operating and monitoring the gang saw system to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate processing of lumber. This role requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and adherence to production and safety standards. The operator plays a key part in maintaining consistent lumber quality and supporting overall sawmill production goals.Key ResponsibilitiesOperate the gang saw and associated equipment during second shift operations.Monitor lumber flow, board quality, and machine performance throughout production runs.Perform machine setup, adjustments, and blade changes as needed to meet sizing and grade requirements.Inspect lumber for defects and ensure products meet company quality specifications.Identify mechanical issues and communicate with maintenance or leadership to minimize downtime.Maintain a clean and safe work area, including removing debris and ensuring proper machine guarding.Follow all safety policies, lock-out/tag-out procedures, and PPE requirements.Complete production logs, downtime reports, and other required documentation.Collaborate with team members, graders, and supervisors to meet shift production goals.Assist with training new operators or helpers as assigned.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent preferred.Previous experience in a sawmill, lumber manufacturing, or industrial production environment strongly preferred.Experience operating a gang saw or similar sawmill machinery is a plus.Strong mechanical understanding and ability to troubleshoot equipment issues.Ability to read measurements and use measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, gauges).Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.Physical RequirementsAbility to stand for long periods and perform repetitive tasks.Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as needed.Exposure to wood particles, noise, vibration, weather changes, and heavy machinery.Ability to work safely around moving equipment and handle materials manually.Work ScheduleFull-time, hourly position.Second shift schedule (hours may vary based on production needs).Overtime may be required during peak production periods.Core CompetenciesSafety awarenessAttention to detailTeamwork and communicationMechanical aptitudeReliability and punctuality
