Our education and engagement programs bring this journalism into classrooms, universities, and communities worldwide, using storytelling as a tool for understanding complex challenges and inspiring action.About the roleThe Pulitzer Center seeks an exceptional project manager to transform ambitious engagement strategies into operational reality-ensuring that breakthrough journalism reaches classrooms, communities, and audiences worldwide through well-executed programs and seamless collaboration.As Project Manager - Engagement & Education, you'll serve as the operational backbone of our engagement work, translating the Chief Impact Officer's strategic vision into detailed project plans, coordinated workflows, and measurable outcomes. You'll orchestrate complex, cross-functional initiatives spanning K-12 education, university partnerships, international outreach, and community engagement-ensuring ideas that move smoothly from concept to impact.This isn't about administrative support-it's about operational leadership. amplify the impact of journalism that matters.ResponsibilitiesProgram Administration & OperationsDevelop and maintain organizational systems and infrastructure that promote cross-team collaboration, operational effectiveness, and program quality, including program documentation, records, resource files, and contact management-ensuring accessibility and inclusivity in all systems designLead planning and facilitation of Engagement team meetings in consultation with the Chief Impact Officer, including agenda setting, documentation of outcomes, and follow-up tracking, creating spaces where diverse perspectives are heard and valuedDevelop project timelines, work plans, budgets, and deliverables, managing clear project documentation and shared workspaces in collaboration with existing operational systems, with attention to equitable resource distributionOversee budgeting, invoicing, and expense tracking in coordination with Chief Impact Officer and finance staffProgram Implementation & Cross-Team CoordinationManage the implementation of engagement programs inspired by the Pulitzer Center model, translating strategic priorities into detailed project plans, timelines, and workflows that expand the visibility and impact of journalism beyond initial publication, with intentional focus on reaching diverse audiences and underserved communitiesFacilitate cross-departmental collaboration between engagement, editorial, operations, and development teams, managing global and cross-border initiatives that strengthen public-interest journalism ecosystems while centering diverse voices and perspectivesTrack deliverables, milestones, and dependencies across multiple teams (K-12, Campus, Outreach, Communications, and International Engagement & Outreach), identifying risks, bottlenecks, and resource needs with equity considerationsPrepare project updates, dashboards, and summaries for the Chief Impact OfficerStrategic Initiative Support & Performance TrackingManage planning, coordination, and implementation of major organization-wide initiatives focused on strengthening impact- and engagement-centered journalism practices, including pilot programs, workshops, training series, and engagement-focused grant initiatives, ensuring diverse participation and equitable accessPlan, manage, and track multiple projects from concept through completion, overseeing timelines, workflows, logistics, and documentation across internal teams and external partnersLead the collection and organization of data for internal learning and external reporting, analyzing activities and deliverables to support continuous improvement, with attention to disaggregated data that reveals equity gaps and opportunitiesParticipation in efforts and projects that support Pulitzer Center culture and valuesThis may include task forces, training sessions, meetings, committees, special projects, organizational events, and any other activities that support the Pulitzer CenterParticipate in the planning processes for the organizationQualificationsRequired Qualifications5-7 years of progressive experience in project management, program operations, or nonprofit program coordinationProven track record managing multiple complex projects simultaneously with competing deadlines and dependenciesStrong organizational and systems-thinking skills with ability to design infrastructure that scalesExcellent communication skills (written and verbal) with ability to facilitate meetings and document outcomes clearlyExperience coordinating cross-functional teams and managing stakeholder relationshipsBudget management and financial tracking experienceProficiency with project management tools, collaborative workspaces, and data tracking systemsDetail-oriented with strong follow-through and accountabilityDemonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion with experience centering diverse perspectives in program execution and operational decision-makingAbility to work independently in a remote environment with strong self-direction and proactive communicationPreferred QualificationsExperience in education, international development, journalism, or mission-driven organizationsKnowledge of engagement strategies, audience development, or educational programmingProject management certification (PMP, CAPM, or similar)Experience with global or cross-border program coordinationGrant management and reporting experienceFamiliarity with monitoring, evaluation, and learning frameworks, particularly equity-focused evaluation approachesExperience facilitating strategic planning or organizational change initiativesUnderstanding of nonprofit operations and collaborative work culturesSuccess MetricsYour impact will be BenefitsSalary Range: $70,000 - $85,000 annually, commensurate with experienceCompensation for US-based employeesThe salary range listed above is for US-based employees. Our benefit package includes paid time off (holiday, vacation, parental and sick), health care coverage (including medical/dental/vision), health savings accounts 403(b) retirement plan, transit benefit, parental leave, and Life & ADD/LTD/STD Insurance.Compensation for non US-based employeesAll non-US salaries are calculated using an international conversion index, which includes estimates for comparable positions in the country of residence and the estimated cost of health insurance. We do offer paid leave benefits which include hours in recognition of local holidays,vacation, sick, parental, and bereavement leave.
