Construction Project Manager

Job DescriptionIdeal candidate will be located in one of the following cities: Austin TX, Dallas TX, Houston TX, Kansas City MO, or St. Louis MO***Job SummaryThe Construction Project Manager is responsible for overseeing all phases of construction projects within an assigned region, ensuring delivery is aligned with scope, schedule, budget, and company standards. This role coordinates and communicates with internal business partners and external contractors to manage new builds, remodels, and related construction activities from pre-construction through closeout. The Construction Project Manager conducts site visits, reviews plans and specifications, monitors progress and quality, manages change orders and invoices, and ensures compliance with applicable codes and Advance Auto Parts standards. The position requires extensive travel, strong technical construction knowledge, and the ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced retail environment.What will you do?Manage competing demands related to Scope, Schedule, and Budget for each assigned project.Schedules and conducts various construction related meetings with Developer, General Contractor and Subcontractors to review site and building plans, specifications, construction schedule, material delivery, inspection issues, critical dates, costs and proposals. These meetings include but are not limited to pre-construction, pre-bid and punch list.Manages and observes work in progress on each project within their respective region to ensure that standard construction practices and procedures are followed, and materials used conform to specifications, budgets and schedules. Requires periodic site visits and weekly updatesReview and check plans and specifications with contractor during construction to ensure compliance with Advance Auto Parts standards and regulations governing construction.Manage, coordinate and communicate with Company's internal resources; Real Estate Managers, Store Planning and Design, Sign Coordinators, Fixture Team, Merchandise Team, Information Technology, Security, Store Operations Team and Construction Field Personnel for timely completion, adhering to scheduled opening, and budget.Maintains weekly reports on construction and inspection activities and compares progress reports.Develops project punch lists for each locationInspects workmanship of completed installations for conformance to standards, receive certificate of occupancy, punch list completeness follow-up and final approval.Review and initial approval of any related invoices, application for payment, change orders, and project close out documents.Surveys existing buildings and site, verifies accuracy of building dimensions, identify and locate critical structures & equipment for store fixture / merchandising plansAssist in the development of a scope of work and budget for projects.Seeks and submit qualifications for final approval group of qualified contractors, subcontractors, and other related professionals and maintains file project of same group for their respective regionPerform additional duties as may be assigned or requiredCoordinate and communicate with cross-functional resources, both internal and external to include, but not limited to, operations partners, Store Setup and merchandising, fixture installation, general contractors, subcontractors, vendors, & material providers for each project within their assigned region.QualificationsWorking knowledge of computer programs and web-based project management platforms; MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and LucernexMust be familiar with various building types and construction techniques.Knowledgeable in standard construction costs, forms, and procedures with ability to review and create construction estimates to compare with industry standards.Ability to read, interpret, and analyze construction plans and specifications to include Structural, Architectural, Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical.Demonstrated ability to proactively communicate and collaborate with cross‑functional internal partners and external stakeholders to anticipate issues, align priorities, and drive timely project execution.Strong financial acumen with demonstrated experience managing construction budgets, reviewing cost estimates, evaluating change orders, and tracking project expenditures to ensure alignment with approved budgets.Certifications, Experience, And EducationCertifications: Valid State Driver’s License is required. General Contractors License is preferred, although not required.Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Project Management, Engineering, Construction Management or related field preferred.Experience: 5-7 years related experience in construction management, preferably in a large retail environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Location & Work Availability: This position will be located within the territory/region it will support and will require extensive travel.
