As the 0993 Internal Auditor, and under general direction from the Deputy Superintendent of Business Services, you will plan, organize, lead and conduct financial, compliance, and operational audits to assure compliance with laws, rules, policies and legal requirements for school districts, programs, services, and federally and state funded programs of the San Francisco County Office of Education and San Francisco Unified School District. In this role, you will provide an internal audit program for the school system covering all financial, procedural and operational aspects of the organization. Essential Duties The duties specified below are representative of the range of duties for this role and are not intended to be an inclusive or exhaustive list. As the 0993 Internal Auditor, you will: Plan, schedule, lead, and conduct financial, operational, and compliance audits to determine compliance with laws, rules, policies and legal requirements Review the financial management and operation of the school district and state and federally funded programs to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations Identify key internal controls for the San Francisco County Office of Education and the agencies it supports Prepare audit reports to clearly state audit observations, conclusions, and recommendations to promote improvement Review and follow up on the status and implementation of recommendations made in previous audit reports Research, identify, and interpret local state, and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures Lead, train, and provide guidance to auditing personnel and personnel supporting auditing activities The strongest candidates will have: Have a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license Knowledge of principles, standards, techniques, and methods for operational, compliance, and financial audits, including: Generally accepted accounting principles and practices (GAAP) Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) Statements California School Accounting Manual (CSAM) Knowledge of the capabilities and applications of computerized administrative and accounting systems Understanding of Internal Control Principles Knowledge of the International Professional Practices Framework (IPPF) Deep understanding of the laws and regulations affecting the operations and financial accounting systems of school districts and the San Francisco County Office of Education. Knowledge of financial, compliance and operational audit procedures that comply with rules and regulations, policies, procedures, and applicable laws Ability to comply with confidentiality requirements and ethical guidelines for local, state and federal laws, policies and statutes Knowledge of San Francisco's public schools/urban public schools and a passionate belief in SFUSD's commitment to instructional leadership as a lever toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile Strong analytics and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure where none exists Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and roles within a complex organization A proven record of effectively planning, organizing and using resources to take action and achieve goals The ability to learn quickly and adapt as needed in a fast-paced environment Outstanding organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail A flexible, "can do" work ethic with a focus on identifying challenges and proactively working to find solutions while maintaining a bigger picture lens and focus on what can be delivered instead of what cannot be done Excellent data analysis skills and experience synthesizing data to drive action steps Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with senior level district staff and colleagues Effective written and verbal communication and the ability to clearly communicate complex, bureaucratic processes to a variety of audiences Ability to define and implement effective HR business practices Ability to work effectively in difficult situations that involve confidential and sensitive matters Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and GSuite (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms) Minimum Qualifications EducationPossession of a baccalaureate degree in accounting, auditing, finance, business administration or other closely related field from an accredited college or university Four (4) years of experience conducting financial and/or compliance audits SubstitutionA valid Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license may substitute for one year of the required experience Up to 4 years of education requirement may be substituted for additional experience on a year-for-year basis What We Offer SFUSD offers a competitive salary of $134,939 - $183,656/annually, commensurate with experience in a similar position.
