Job DescriptionManages patient's admissions, insurance coverage, bed coverage, and discharge.ResponsibilitiesCollect, verify, and input patient information paperwork with appropriate financial and demographic forms into the M.I.S systemObtains all old medical record numbers from the Medical Records Department for patients previously in the system, or when appropriate assigns new medical record numberReceives information from the Emergency Department on incoming emergency admissions.Admits and interviews patients scheduled for elective, emergency, OB, ambulatory surgery and pre-admission prior to admission to the hospital following established proceduresRegisters people for private outpatient registration office. Completes corresponding charge forms and documentationRegisters patients having pre-admission testing servicesInterviews patients privately before, during or after the services for financial screening to update insurance information or other pertinent dataEnsures all admissions are given admission information which includes but is not limited to: The Patient's Bill of Rights, Discharge information, A Welcome booklet, hospital policies and procedures regarding room rates and financial obligationsPrepares and distributes daily admission and census listsVerify patient financial class codes are correct and refers patient to Medicaid Expediters when the patient does not have coverage.Notifies Medical A.C. of all private teaching admissionsAssign patient beds and initiate patient bed transfers when necessary.Enters relevant discharge and transfer information into the computerAccepts telephone and in-person requests from physicians for patients accommodationsAssures placement of patients' name on "Elective or Emergency" listAct as billing liaison for the patient, prepare bills, collect, deposit, and give receipts for payments. Update the billing system to reflect payments and keep track of complete and incomplete accounts in a separate filing system.Closes all PROP, PAT and Ambulatory Surgery visits in the M.I.S. systemProcess and files birth certificatesProcess and files death certificatesContacts Nursing Stations to obtain expected dischargeRelease bodies to funeral director. Notify morgue attendant for family members that with to view deceased.Communicates with Housekeeping & Nursing regarding status of patients bed using BedBoard system.May be required to act as a messenger or patient transporter and provide backup/relief to the clinic cashiersQualificationsHigh School Graduate or GED required.Healthcare Insurance verification and Front Desk registrationMinimum 2 years of registration experience within a medical setting (doctor?s office, hospital).
