Shipping Manager
Job DescriptionPosition SummaryWe are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Shipping Manager responsible for ensuring timely and complete shipments from our Nashville facility. This role involves mentoring and developing employees, as well as creating and implementing effective processes and procedures.Essential FunctionsDepartment Leadership: Plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of the shipping department, ensuring an organized, safe, and sanitary work environment in compliance with company policies, OSHA, and government regulations. Load Coordination: Manage the load-out schedule with in-house distribution and external contractors to ensure timely and accurate dispatch and receipt of all products. Inventory Management: Ensure all transactions are recorded promptly and accurately, maintaining a correct inventory position at all times, including shipments, donations, product loss, and damage. Performance Monitoring: Oversee and manage all aspects of employee performance, ensuring full compliance with all quality assurance standards, particularly good housekeeping and overall cleanliness of products and work areas. Managerial Duties: Engage in typical managerial responsibilities, including planning, evaluating, organizing, integrating, and delegating tasks. Employee Management: Directly or through supervisors, manage employees to ensure effective selection, retention, development, disciplinary action, and performance management. Participate in negotiations, grievances, or other contract-related activities if a collective bargaining agreement exists. Process Improvement: Develop and implement set procedures for the shipping process to ensure on-time and complete delivery. Performance Metrics: Develop metrics to monitor progress and success. Training: Obtain certification as a forklift trainer and ensure all drivers are certified and compliant. Data Management: Ensure data accuracy in the SAP system. Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned. Work Experience And QualificationsCommunication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of and the ability to adhere to applicable OSHA and environmental regulations. Experience: Previous experience managing a shipping department in a manufacturing environment. Work Ethic: Strong work ethic and attention to detail. Certifications: Lean certification is a plus. SAP experience required. Team Management: Ability to select, coach, develop, engage, and retain a team of employees. Experience Requirement: A minimum of 3 years of related experience, including 2 years of supervisory experience. Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs and to lead others through change. Multitasking: Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with strong organizational and prioritization skills. Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentPhysical Activity: Must stand and walk for a minimum of 8 hours per day or longer during overtime situations. Work Conditions: Work is performed in a sometimes hot, cold, humid, noisy industrial environment and around dust, oil, grease, chemicals, and other substances.
