Job Description: The Lactation Consultant is responsible for providing clinical lactation services and support to patients, families, clinical teams and community.Collaborates with multiple departments and inter-professional teams as the expert with regard to lactation, breastfeeding and human milk management.Tasks include assessing, educating, implementing interventions, and monitoring outcomes of lactation support for clients.Essential FunctionsPatient Care Ensures delivery of evidenced based and quality servicesResponds to consults per departmental standardsImplements and monitors interventions with regard to breastfeeding and pumpingParticipates in patient care rounds, HMMC roundsMaintains patient lists within EHRDocuments all encounters within the electronic health recordParticipates in policy/procedure development and upkeepLactation Education Educates clients on proper technique with regard to breastfeeding and pumpingPlans and develops departmental and patient teaching sessions.Serves as a preceptor to studentsParticipates in community outreach programs, Hospital wide breastfeeding committee, WBWResearch/Data Collection Participates in research and data collection as opportunities are identifiedProfessional DevelopmentMaintains professional credentials and expands knowledge and skills.Develops and implements an individualized plan for professional growth and development including participation in professional organizations and activities, workshops, seminars, and staff development programs when feasible.Represents Client lactation program through participation in leadership of local or national professional organizations or initiatives, continuing education events and training programs when feasbile.Participates as expert speaker/author on lactation topics as appropriate.Mandatory submission criteriaPossibility for extension/conversion at the end of the assignment, if business needs alignMandatory experienceMinimum of 1 years of licensed experience, strongly preferred 2 yearsMandatory educationBachelor’s degree in healthcare or similar field of study.Pediatric medical-based settings experienceInpatient and Outpatient experience Mandatory licensure/CertificationIBCLC certification is mandatory for all candidatesCandidates will need one of the below certifications as well as the IBCLC:Registered Nurse (RN) Licensed Dietitian-Nutritionist (LDN) Occupational Therapist (OT) Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) Respiratory Therapist Osteopathic Respiratory Therapist Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)TekWissen® Group is an equal opportunity employer supporting workforce diversity.
