Endoscopy Technician
Job SummaryAssists with moving patients for GI procedures. Assists Endoscopists during the procedure. Follows policies and procedures with care of the endoscope immediately after the procedure, which includes decontaminating, cleaning, high-level disinfecting, documenting, and hanging the scopes in a well-ventilated storage cabinet. Handles specimens in collaboration with the RN. Assists with answering the telephone and helping in Same Day Surgery Department when available. Maintains inventory as needed for the department and orders in a timely manner (including special orders); also returns scopes for repairs and obtains loaners.Essential FunctionsProvide Sterilization and decontamination support to the Endoscopy room, assist nurse with procedure. Provides support with transferring patients. Assist in all areas of Same Day Surgery as neededMaintains National Patient Safety Goals, including participation in the Time Out processReceive assignment and takes directionAssist in other area in Perioperative servicesAssist in the preparation of the procedure room and assist with patient careAssist with moving patients in GI suitePractices Standard precautionsDecontaminates endoscopes in GI suite immediately post- procedureKnowledge of leak testing cleaning scopes in the sink for Steris and OPAKnowledge of cleaning scopes in the sink for Steris and OPAKnowledge of Endoscopy equipment and care, Steris sterilization, EvoTech, OPA, Channel Check, and other suppliesMonitors specimen and transports them to lab in a timely mannerManages time efficiently/sets priorities appropriately.Understands role during emergency codesParticipates in Quality ImprovementVerbalizes unit specific quality improvement projectsVerbalizes hospital-wide quality improvement initiativesAssists with the collection, interpretations or reporting of quality improvement Other DutiesPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
