Mustpossess Universal Refrigeration Reclaim license.Ability to read and interpret manufacturer's drawings and specifications, installationlayouts and sketches; to use machinist's hand tools and precision measuringinstruments; to work to exacting tolerances.Must possess a valid State of California Class C Driver's License, if required. Mustpossess, or obtain within 90 days, all LMMS-issued safety licenses required by law tooperate material handling equipment and vehicles normally used by employees in thisclassification.Must be able to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI clearance.Job DescriptionIAM Hourly represented employees who currently work at the main (Sunnyvale/Palo Alto) unit, Santa Cruz, VAFB or Eastern Range facilities must apply to open requisitions on Brass Ring to be considered for the position.This occupation requires the installation, maintenance, repair, overhaul and modificationof plant air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration systems, and equipment, includinglow temperature cascade systems, Building Automation Systems (BAS) and steamboiler, gas-fired heating equipment (excludes installation of ducts and utility feed lines).Operate centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, hot water and steam boilers and air handlingsystems per manufacturers’ recommendations and management directives. Determine,by making periodic inspections, the repair and maintenance work necessary to preventfunctional breakdowns requiring major overhaul of air conditioning, ventilation andrefrigeration systems and equipment, including low temperature cascade systems, andgas-fired heating equipment. Make working sketch of parts by taking measurementsdirectly from equipment in need of repair, record material requirements and specify anynecessary machining operations for use by others.Overhaul air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration systems and equipment, includinglow temperature cascade systems, by repairing or replacing crank shafts, bearings,pistons, valves, piston rings, condensers, coils, thermostats, humidity, and othermechanical units. Charge system with refrigerant, check and test for leaks; set andadjust controls and regulators and make functional tests after major overhaul operations.Repair associated hydronic, hot water/chilled water systems, vacuum and pneumaticcontrol equipment. Fabricate copper tubing, hoses and fittings as required.Overhaul heating equipment by disassembling heater, diagnosing trouble, replacing orrepairing worn and faulty parts such as burners, baffles, pilots, governors, floats,strainers, pumps and thermocouples. Reassemble, install and functionally test heatingequipment. Calibrate and make any adjustment required.Use the BAS computers to monitor and control individual building heating, ventilating andair conditioning (HVAC) equipment for purposes of monitoring equipment and buildingconditions, fault detection, change temperature control points and HVAC systemsanalysis/performance.Troubleshoot and analyze input and output of HVAC stages for HVAC systems by readingvoltages, hand held microprocessors and other observations. Adjust circuit boards andmodules as needed. Work on all 24 volt or less AC/DC HVAC control systems and makenecessary repairs.Check and calibrate systems after their original installation or after any major overhauloperation and make necessary adjustments to achieve operational efficiency.Work at various heights. Assist maintenance craftworkers in other fields of specializationwhen so assigned.Perform modification and rework wherein the operations are essentially the same as thework described herein.Work from blueprints, sketches, manufacturers' specifications and manuals.Work with liaison personnel and may verbally suggest design changes for engineeringapproval when the system cannot be installed as designed, or does not meet functionaldemands or where such changes will simplify fabrication, installation or maintenance ofthe system.Use any equipment, tools, materials or information source necessary to perform theabove duties.Desired SkillsExperience with BAS systemsOther Important InformationBy applying to this job, you are expressing interest in this position and could be considered for other career opportunities where similar skills and requirements have been identified as a match.
